1:18 Scale Aircraft Carrier - This is sick
Well, I think we'll need the translating skills of either blaster or supersonicfifi here. My French isn't that great, but it looks like some guy across the pond has decided to go balls-to-the-wall and start construction on a 1:18 scale aircraft carrier. From the research pics on this site and well, (check out the elevator section!) I think he just might pull it off. Unbelievable. Hmmm it might even float. Probably enough space for a two man crew to drive it. Check it out. Oh yeah... blaster...perhaps you might be able to talk to this guy and find out what he's up to.

translator
after reading the french site and the translation ( i think it was a nice translation summary ) the project started with his first F18 in our scale - i can understand his love at first sight !
He wanted to do it in 1/72 scale (has made the elevator) and scaled it up ! till now the project seem stalled because there is no further news since 2005 ! but after seeing the lego version this project is crazy ! 20 meters long ! 58 feet will be problem for stockage !
let me know if you need translation on specific points ....

I think he could build the hull, super structure, flight deck with in a year or two, I remind you that those would be basic and void of most detail, it the detail I think will take him a long time to do. I give him four years tops to finish it.aferguson wrote:it will take him the rest of his life to build it...
I also know a guy who plans to make the USS Hornet in 1:18th he is only going to build it from the waterline up to the flight deck and he thinks he could have it done with all the little details in about a year and a half, but of course he is retired and has a lot of time on his hands but unfortunately he had a family emergency and had to take car of his son in Maryland… he told me when he gets back he will start on the hull.

CVN!
Dude- If he lived on this side of the rock I could see having about 20 -30-ish people from up in here taking one segment of the aircraft carrier to build. That way you defray the labour, cost, - pretty much like how several companies are subcontractor to a project like the new 787 being built down the street from where I now work. When that sucker is done, hopefully my plane can get reassigned to its airwing. Good times!

that thing will be cool when its finished, i actually plan on making my own one day, but i plan on doing it more along the lines of the old USS Flagg from GI Joe, a true 1/18 scale seems too big to be displayable in any normal home, figure i'll go a little smaller, somewhere around 7 or 8 feet long

He will need to make the F-18 R/C so that he can use the Carrier as their launching pad!
