Knight with Articulation----WIP MORE PHOTOS ADDED

Post by steelbonnet » Sun Dec 10, 2006 1:14 pm

Hi All,

Here`s something I`ve just started. I used a Mounted Prestige Knight by Papo as base.

This is the one I used in the link on horseback http://www.toyknights.com/meknset.html

Anyway here`s a few photos of the WIP

First off the Papo knight with arms removed & MLS (Superhero showdown) Doc Oct shoulder ball added.
Image

All Apart
Image

MLS Dr Doom Arms, they have been sanded down at the biceps to look more realistic.
Image

Dr Doom arm added to the ball joint.
Image

I dremelled out the original Pouldran`s & attached to the upper part of the Dr Doom arms.
Image

Showing off Realistic articulation.

Well that`s it for now. I`m sorting out his legs at present so expect an update sometiume during the week :D

Oh also here`s a sneek peek at something else I`m working on,can you guess what??

Look forward to hearing what you think of the Articulated knight & my Sneek peek :D

Merry Christmas

Thank`s very Much Aferg.

As for Orcs, well i`m going to sculpt some in the new year along with Urri-ki & I know someone who`s contemplating shrinking down (with Hydrospanner casting stuff) some of the 6 inch LOTR heads for me.

Though that is more a new year project :D

Again Thank`s

holy cow.....can i get some of the shrunken/sculpted orcs?

btw Applause made some 4 inch LOTR figures. No articulation but they're not bad sculpts. An Uruk-hai, berserker and warg with warg rider were all they made as far as orcs go. You can find them on ebay from time to time for around $5 each, except the warg with rider which was an exclusive in a 9 pack of figures.

Aferg,
I don`t think it`ll be a problem with orc/Uri-ki etc heads mate though won`t be till early 2007. I`m sculpting Shields, helmets, weapons from the LOTRs trilogy (Human,Elves,Orcs etc) & my mate is shrinking the 6" LOTR heads & I believe he`ll be selling them.
I`ll give more info when it happens & the prices on his heads are pretty good BTW.

As for the Monty Python...HAHAHA Actually I was doing that with one of my other Static knights "It`s only a flesh wound".

7thva_hunter,
I actually do have plans to articulate another knight or two & do a Jousting Tournament :D

Again Thank`s :D

Yea sorry they will be heads only, would have been great if it were bodies too.

As for what i`m using for Orc`s,Well I`m thinking of PTE height adjusted (little sorter) & sculpted on muscles on arms, legs & torso. Have a ton of PTE bodies to use for Orc masses......LOL

As for Urri ki Warriors I was thinking soemthing like my Captain America custom, tall with Sculpted on Muscle groupings to make them look impossing.

Also Chap mei have made Goblin/orc type heads too.

Also do you have any links to these 4" Static Applause LOTR figures Aferg. I`d love to see about getting some to cut pieces off & use :D

well i don't care much about articulation so i was thinking of using some modified papo & schleich knight bodies maybe. I don't really like the Uruk-hai so much (note it's not Urri-ki :) ) so the couple of burger king and applause figures i have suit me fine.

No link to the applause figs i'm afraid as they were sold some years ago after the first two movies. Check on ebay under 'applause lotr' and 'applause lord of the rings' and you'll see them from time to time. Don't pay too much.

They made a decent nazgul, gandalf, frodo, the orcs i mentioned. aragorn, an elf warrior, theoden, eomer and a couple of others i forget. They also made a great Treebeard which came with Merry and Pippin riders. Burger king had 4 inch figures too. Most were crap but a few were usable. Galadrial, Celeborn, Saruman and especially Gimli.

Keep me posted on the orc heads. Quite interested in those..

Thank`s for the intel there Aferg :D Also the correction to spelling too ;)

As for me,well you know me I`m an Articulation freak for figures.....LOL
So I`ll be doing that, though for army building I may just follow your example for the statics too :D

I already have plans for all 9 Nazgul & they`ll have cloth Black robes once done.I`ve already got the 9 steeds sorted :D using the Papo horse with the Nazgul type figure,as well as a couple of static customized ones too.
I`ve also hinted to my wife (for Xmas) to get me the Big Toybiz Bog monster (will look better with a 1/18th Nazgul on than the 6-8inch it comes with).

I`ll check into those brands you mentioned & as for orc heads,I`ll certainly keep you informed :D

I guess by Bog monster you mean the flying dragon type creature that the nazgul use as steads. They creatures don't actually have a name in the book.

I got one a long time ago and customed up a nazgul rider, using the applause figure's head (which detaches) a C3P0 body, cape, mace etc. Looks quite good. Better than the ones in the movie, i think...heheh. I put new legs on it from a plastic raptor toy i had. The legs that come with the Toy Biz creature looked kinda goofy i thought.

I also made a galloping nazgul from the Papo figure you mentioned and a Schleich horse (the oriental horse archer one) and another head from an applause nazgul figure. Looks great with the horse having flaming eyes and nostrils.

I want to do 'the nine' someday too but it's expensive to get everything together and a lot of work so i've been blanching about doing it.....but one day i will get around to it too..

Make sure you post pics of your work..

Aferg,
Yep that be the creature Peat monster I believe is the package name or something like that. Thank`s for the heads up on the legs, didn`t know that.
So Aferg what`s the chances of you posting all your 1/18th LOTR/Medieval customs, figures for people like to gander at :D Pretty Please It IS Christmas ;) :D LOL

75th Ranger,
Thank`s very much for the interest & very kind comments too. I think that`s the creeat thing with this site,we all approach from different angles & not from a Hoard sort of approach as some custom sites tend to be. Lots of Creative thinking & Very talented guys on here :D

Here`s some more WIP photos of the legs now :D ALMOST there :D

Well the Legs & waist are from an Eversparkle figure. The lower legs are from MLS Dr Doom.
To make the lower legs fit I removed the upper loops on the Eversparkle legs & then drilled a slot on the underneath to fit the MLS Doom knee loop.
Image

Now with the Legs as a union.
Image
Image
Image

Image

With the Prestige Knee armour added.
Image

Now I`ve dremeled hollow the Thigh armour from the Prestige Knight legs. I think I`ll be dremelling down the Eversparkle thighs a little for a tighter fit of the armour.
Image
Image
Image
Image

I`m going to dremel out the front Shin armour & place over the Dr Doom shin,so the pattern works. Also I`m going to extend the feet too using the Prestige feet.

So there you go for now,at least you can now see he`s got legs (articulated & works well with his mount too) & also the plate armour to attach.

Looking forward to hearing your comments.

Merry Christmas

HAHAHA Doctor Frankenstein Me,whatever gives you that impression....LOL

Thank`s very much MK :D

Aferg,
Thank`s mate but nothing special I just get figures purely on a fodder bases. No Brand name figure is above customzing IMHO & so get all sorts of figures that work within the 1/18th scale. Even the likes of Eversparkle which a lot of folk turn there noses up at...LOL All the better for me :D
Though after chatting with you on the static LOTR one`s I may venture more into Static figures too for more fodder :D

Oh on that did you know that Kinder Egg did some LOTR figures? 2-3" tall Halflings being the 2" I presume. Saw them on ebay a Guy in Germany is selling them.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lord-of-the-Rings ... dZViewItem
Didn`t even know Kinder Egg did LOTR figures in them :(

Again Thank`s & FYI I`ve just started another 2 Knights, though I`m concentrating on this one first (next day or so will be done completely). The other two Knights are: A Teutonic Knight & a Knight with a Great helm on (removable as I`ve just dremelled it out).
