BBI Abrams Colour FYI

Post by Spudkopf » Fri Aug 25, 2006 11:06 pm

I recently posted that the Gunze Hobby Colour H27/44 Tan was a good match for the plastic used on the BBI M1A1, although I did state at the time that I felt it was still a tad light.

Well since then I've had to do some more serious painting on my Abrams, because for some strange reason the left half the bustle rack of my vehicle had a very bright yellow cast to it which was nothing like the rest of the tank and it stood like the preverbals.

Seeing that I also wanted to fix up paint of the front and rear mud guards, the commanders linked sight and the ammo’ trays on the secondaries, I decided to break out the airbrush and find a much better match.

As luck would have it I was able to find out on the first go that using a 50/50 mix of Gunze Hobby Color H79 Sandy Yellow (FS 30371) and Gunze Hobby Color H310 Brown (FS 30219) that I got a near if not perfect match, all the more so when BBIs weathering is also taken into account.

I will post pictures when I get a little further down the track, as I am currently putting together some Combat Identification Panels (CIPs) for my beast as well.

I hope this little piece of information may be of some use to others as well.
