F/A-18 Radar
F/A-18 Radar
I know it has been awhile (talk about a one-legged man!!!) and the project BBI Hornet had to be shelved for awhile. BUT...looks like ramping up for the long haul again. The initial housing for the radar installation (at least the basic shape) is going good. One major problem is the internal supports for the tray to slide out on. It's not the tray, but the clearence inside the nose just under and forward of the cockpit. The area is way too small and cutting out the internal supports of the entire nose looks like a no-go either. So what I've decided to do is make two radar trays...one extended and one retracted. Both are to be mounted on hidden rods covered by the tray itself. Just flip the nosecone open and swap the trays (both are identical...at least on the forward visible part). Canopy frame rails are done and in...a few small details and that's finished. Canopy opening mechanism is about 75%...a couple of small hurdles and it will be finished too. Nose gear detailing is just starting. Eventually I'll catch up (somebody break Mig29K's fingers...please?). Pics as I can get them...schedule permitting.

Hey Mig...as promised, pics of my "lill friend". Not an Airsoft, this is the real-deal. Romanian SAR-1 (7.62X39) with all stocks replaced, gas piston rod replaced, trigger group replaced, Gen 2 low scope w/siderail mount and red dot scope added, tactical sling added. All parts are US made that were changed or added. Spot on at 100 feet, the red dot has 11 illumination modes and a 5-hour continuous battery. Not exactly 1/18th scale, but alot louder!!!

I saw your email you sent back a couple weeks back. Sorry I didn't reply promptly on it. That's a pretty solid lookin rifle you got there. I was going to buy me a Mosin-Nagant Carbine that I saw in excellent re armored condition. They have a HELL of a kick, and I usually have to put a buffer when I establish a stock weld so I won't get as bad a 'charlyhorse' on my shoulder. Some of my friends have suggest that I seem more like an AK47 kind of dude than an Stoner series. Is that 7.62 x 39 or is it 5.45? Heck if I'm ever swimmin' in tumbleweeds we should go out to the firing range!

Deal dude...I'll go to the range with you anytime. The rifle is a SAR-1 7.62 X 39 round that barks loud, but the recoil isn't so bad. Try shooting one youself....they are very smooth and easy. Had my first go at an AK just before going for Desert Shield/Storm....and loved them ever since.
