BBI F-16 Afterburner Can out of round

Post by wolf8564 » Mon May 01, 2006 12:52 pm

Normally I would try to shape this with a little heat, maybe even hot water but seeing as it is still surrounded by the airbrakes and fuselage even after you remove the horizontal stabilizers. errr got any ideas

Tailcan Problem

I had mine a little out of round too, but I cured it fairly easily. I have a heatgun for shrink tubing and R/C aircraft...works great, but a hair dryer is almost as good. Here's how I did it. I took both stabs off and wrapped the speed brakes in a double coating of masking tape to protect them. I found a plastic Easter egg and took one end (the sharper end) and double-taped it too. I then carefully (that's the key....carefully!!!) heated the afterburner while forcing the egg end into the can opening. Don't melt the darn thing...go easy. Hold pressure on the egg while you blow and cool the afterburner. Little by little it will reshape itself....JUST GO EASY ON THE HEAT!
