HM's Latest MIG-21 Gets Redone

Post by Epap » Mon Sep 19, 2011 1:56 pm

Many of us clamored for HM to do a Soviet Mig-21 in a standard three-color camouflage scheme, rather than all of those bare metal models that were being cranked out, only to be disappointed by the scheme and, especially, the color selection when this long awaited rendition finally arrived. While some are willing to make do with this model, I don't buy the apple green and brownish tan used on the upper surface nor the deep blue/gray---mostly blue---on the undersurface. So I redid the model in a four-color scheme which added a red-brown, replaced the apple green and lightened the tan on top and went to a light gray----with a hint of blue----underneath. Here's a picture of the model as I received it:Image

Nicely done, looks way better, especially the brown. 8)

I did not get this because the colors looked weird/off on the official photos but it was not as bad after seeing it in the flesh and on your 1st pic, but still enough doubt to stop me from buying then. Its now in my "to-buy-or-not-to-buy" pending list

Can you post the underside pics? Would love to see the improvements you did there.

Thanks Gouchy,

Here's a picture of the underside of my Mig-21 repaint. As you can see, I went with a much lighter gray, which was a composite drawn from a number of Mig schemes I investigated. A light blue/gray----but lighter than HM's color-----could also have been appropriate:Image

Thanks Epap

I prefer this Lt Grey underside that you've done

The added weathering takes it to a whole new level, someday I'll try weathering my birds like you and maybe attempt re-painting them whole, thanks for the inspiration 8)
