Custom 1/32 sdkfz 233 8-rad armored car (Updated 3-1-11)

Post by PanzerArm » Fri Feb 25, 2011 6:40 pm

I gave a little preview for what this was going to look like in a previous thread, but here it is with a bit more work done. You can't see it too well, but the interior is all painted as well. I still have to wait for the decals, and then put it together (it's in several pieces, just staged for the photo), and then do some touch up painting and then weathering. If you are wondering, this was made from a Monogram 1/32 sdkfz 232, the gun from an FOV sdkfz 251/9, and some styrene/plastruct.

Oh, and the engine hatches are off because I am waiting for some Aber photo-etched ones so I can have opening hatches to the engine compartment.

Love it!
That old Monogram kit makes a nice complement to FOV and 21st 1/32 stuff.

Very nice work, it would be great if this was ever offered in a prebuilt model.

Thanks gents. I have finished painting the 8-rad, save for the engine hatches and antenna aerials on the sides. I'm waiting to paint/emplace those last parts until I receive the Aber workable hinges that I'm going to use for the engine hatches (that way I can open the darn things). That might be a while though, PE parts like those are usually special order, and I haven't actually gotten word that my order has shipped yet. I'll post soem more pictures tonight of what it looks like now before the weathering process begins.

Hello everyone, I have some more pictures for you all! It's still not done as my Aber hinges have yet to arrive, and I won't really proceed with the weathering until I get those and a few other things done.

As you can see it is a little darker. The MiG desert yellow filter accomplished that.

And here is something to compare it to, the original sdkfz 232. This one is slated for rebuild/repaint, but you can see what the monogram kit was intended to build:

Hope you guys like it! I think it is turning out great, and I can't wait for the last pieces to arrive in the mail so I can wrap this one up and put it with the rest of my DAK armor!
