Need help with Decals!

Post by PanzerArm » Mon Dec 27, 2010 12:49 pm

Hey everyone, I'm trying to finish up this Achilles project and I have hit sort of an impass at the decals. I have researched the markings I want, and unfortunately no one makes the marking in 1/35 decals. There are sheets out there for 1/35 achilles but you either ahve to buy a whole 1/35 kit, or you have to pay $20.00 to buy and ship some from a company in England. Both of those options don't even provide the markings I want, just markings for different Achilles.

So I guess my question is, does anyone know how to make there own? I have an HP C7200 all-inlone printer, which is a thermal inkjet printer, that I can use at home. I know the insinia that I would like to make, and since my printer does not print in white I would need to have white decal paper I assume? I really ahve no experience in the matter so does anyone know how the heck to go about doing this?

Oh, and here is what I would need for the Achilles:

British 1st Corps Insinia X 2
Image

62nd Anti-Tank Regiment Insignia X 2
Image

4th company, J Troop Leader X 1

Allied Recognition Star X 2

I'd also need to print out the words "JUKE GIRL" and "S237452" (X2) in white for the sides of the hull.

Thanks

How are your painting skills? You could maybe print the lettering (JUKE GIRL & S237452) in the lightest grey your printer can handle, then go over it with some white paint and a fine tip brush. Course....that would only work on clear decal sheet. The star could be done with a black/grey outline, which could be cut away afterwards.
Just some thoughts......

Or try to print on some sort of vinyl and then cut out the shapes and airbrush.

Yeah, I have considered that, but unfortunately those images above are a LOT bigger than the actual insignia that will go on the 1/32 Achilles. The troop leader insignia in particular is going to be microscopic and I just don't think an airbrush or even my hands would do it justice.

I found a website called decalpaper.com that sells white and clear decal paper and according to their site is compatible with my inkjet printer. I think I will give them a call as soon as they are back in their office (Dec 30th) and see about the particulars of their product and if it will suit my needs. I'll keep everyone posted.

Wait a minute. What about using Letraset letter transfers? You should be able to get small writing in white.
