one time I got knocked points by a judge for 1/35 truck, I had gear placed on the fender, and I was told it was stored incorrectly, yet in the diorama the soldier has taken off his weapon and articles to smoke a cig, and was "at ease" in the scene.
AMPS judges can be hardazzs for sure sometimes.
Another one knocked me for a Hermann Göring Pz II L I did years ago, saying the unit had no such thing in their To&E, actually HG had one(reason why for the single is unknown out of the 4 units that fielded them, 4.Pz, 9.Pz..1 kp each, HG with 1 and 4.Kav had 5), No SS units had them, and neither did 116.Pz or Lehr as many claim.

you could do a Pz IV D mit 7.5cmL43(upgunned and uparmoured verison) used by training schools and 3 were field by the 26.Pz Div in Italy '43..I have several photos on the hard drive of a 26.Pz one for a future build of the DML kit sitting on the shelf.flyboy_fx wrote:Lol same here!
Right now im reworking a 1/18 Panzer IV Ausf D.. And it is NO way a rivet counter model...just to make it look better..
This is supposed to be one of the 3 of the 26.Pz.

Also I just recalled from going through my photos, Bovington's Pz IV is the same combo of a Pz IV D hull and upgunned turret.

Man I hate rivet counters.
I was in a local modeling club meeting a few years ago. There was talk of some Tamiya kit that was either 3mm too long or too short I can not remeber. They were saying it was a gastly foul up and needs to be fixed.
The naked eye can not even see 3mm. If those guys were not to have read it they would never even noticed it.
Was the expert in WW2 ? Was he there ? So he gets his info from some book . Was the author of the book there? Was he in the tank that had the flag on the back?
Heck Gabby Gabreski was unsure if the bottom of his P-47 was gray or natural metal and he flew the thing.

...what's the goal of rivet counters anyway....having a model rivet counted doesn't bear any meaningful criticism on the actual modelling process or skill. It just means the model maker cut some corners regarding military research (which can be an entirely difficult quest on its own!).
....i'm still slowly understanding the skill it takes to cut, bend, mould plastic to resemble the engine compartment of a tank. Sometimes Craftsmenship and Historical Research should be seperated for their own good!

"you get in a steep dive in this thing and you've got almost no maneuvarabilty at all. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the broad side of another barn"
One of the best things here is that everybody tries to help and gives what I consider good criticism.
I know nothing I build will ever be historically right, but I still have fun building it. There are some amazing builders on this site I don't think I need to bring up names, we know who they are and their work speaks for itself.
Myself, you could fool me on all kind of things, hell I'm not going to look everything up, when I see something I like thats it.
Please keep the customs coming.
