Creative Block
I'm having a little creative block. I'm looking for some new ideas for military custom figures. I have the fodder to make just about any WWII German or American Soldiers, I also have a healthy modern fodder bank If you have pics of some unique looking soldiers, or perhaps an obscure camo, that I have yet to tackle. I'd love to see them. I need to get the creative juices flowing.

How about the "Band of Brothers" ?
I found some BBI guys a long while ago that look like Nixon and Winters.
I made some for a small dio scene. BBI later came out with helmets that had the spade like the 506th.
Have you every tried any WWI figs before?
Have you tried doing any other nation's soldiers involved in the conflict? (WWII)
-Proper WWII Russian soldiers?
-Other branches of the military- sailors, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine?
-Bob Hope/ USO?
-Soldiers returning home in dress uniforms?

I have not tried WWI figs, but I thought the young Indiana Jones figure had some potential as a WWI Doughboy, but the helmet is a snag. Perhaps I can find something in the hardware store, that I could use to make the helmet. I was thinking of a Navy Deck gunner, but I need to find a good source for the life vest.

I think RED made a Navy figure out of a GI Joe guy ("Shipwreck"?) that had the life vest. Or didn't the first German pilot have a yellow life vest on him? Or the new BBI figs w/ removeable life vest.Fritzkrieg wrote:I have not tried WWI figs, but I thought the young Indiana Jones figure had some potential as a WWI Doughboy, but the helmet is a snag. It would be really cool to see a WWI Doughboy figure. I had both Great-Grandpas in WWI. Yes, that helmet would be a hurdle. But you might come across something. What about those old lead figures? Or can you make small parts like that with resin? Picklehaube- any help here?
How about a WWII Aussie from the Pacific theater.
They often used "borrowed" uniform pieces from the US marines down to the gaiters.
Webbing was a mix of British and US items and a
1/18 figure armed with a Owen sub-machine gun would look great.
Of course the traditional Slouch Hat would look good too.

I do like the Hogans Heroes suggestion though.

How about some West German Bundeswehr soldiers from the Cold War.
Easy Custom. All you need is an US M1 Helmet (Plenty of those around) or one of those Wehrmacht caps, Field Grey Uniform with the German flag pianted really small on the upper arm on both sleaves. For weaponary an FoV MG-42 painted as an MG3 (the MG-42's cold war successor) or Uzi's (with Stocks) for NCOs and of course the HK G3A3 rifle (but I can't imagine they are easy to come across these days as the only one's I know of were made were made by Intoyz - which by the way if you do have one I am desperate to acquire one).
Chck out these photos for reference:

Osprey's book NATO Armies Today is a great reference book:

Hope that's not against site rules! Apologies if it is!
Good luck Fritzkrieg I've always admired your customs and have been hoping you will do some cold war ones!

Yeah from what I've seen the The bbi British Paratrooper Helmet could work well. Nice amount of camo netting on it. Maybe the bbi WWII US paratroopers helmets might work as well. I believe they are US M1 steel pattern.
