Modeling paint tip question

Hey, for you guys who do a lot of repaints or build kits, what would you recommend for creating a decent bare metal look to a plane? The plane in question is a 1/32 P-38J that came with Will Bong's markings (the 1970 Revell kit), and his plane is the typical bare aluminum. All my planes I built back in my youth were generally camo or USAAF olive drab or Navy Blue. The kit is in an off-white color so it does need painting but at least it wasn't molded in that silver plastic with all the swirls in it you see in cheap kits.

I want to avoid that cruddy grainy look Testor's enamel always had. Would prefer acrylics, and as I am planning on getting an airbrush for another project if there is a brand that works better in an airbrush than others I could use recommendations there as well.

If you are going to airbrush your model, consider trying one of the buffing metalizer's from Testors, they can produce an unbelievably realistic looking natural metal finish without too much work, you basically spray it on, allow it to dry, then lightly buff it with a cotton ball or similar, and you are done.

Thanks to both of you. I'll probably go with the Testor's product. Since I haven't built a real kit in about a decade, the foil intimidates me a bit. However, it looks really promising for a 1/8 scale VW Beetle kit I have.
