I will usually go with the lighter color first. I try first to use tamyia spray paints to use as the base color. Most of the time they have the color that is correct for the light color. The only time I have run into a problem is on that F-18. There is not a good color solution for the light blue or the dark blue/grey. So in that case I had to run the airbrush for the entire camo pattern. Even then, I will always work from light to dark colors. They go on so much better when you do that. Weathering is usually the very last thing although sometimes I will put final markings on over the weathering... just depends.

I am just a couple final markings away from a new Zero Scheme. I intend to have this one be my first plane to try and sell. It's a very unique scheme with very little history and lots of controversy for those folks that really know the asian pacific axis subjects... but it was simply too cool to pass up and it looks soooo good.

I will post up final pics by this weekend hopefully, then I think it will go up on ebay or something, off to someone else to enjoy! Might sell a couple others... Haven't quite decided yet.

LOL-

I meant LAST week! Got caught up in a custom scratch build Japanese Ohka jet project (it's killing me) I am going to make a strong effort to photograph that darn Zero and get that up for something new to look at. Then I think I will finally get to that darn Fw-190D-9 that is 99.9% done. Then If I have the courage I might return to this darn Ohka!

The hold up... Well my sis had a baby over the weekend in addition to christmas = no vinyl cut stencils to finish the stupid zero. I have 6 marking to finish (about 15 minutes of time to complete) Then I can shoot it.

Remind me NEVER to take on a Scratch build project EVER again! That is the other reason! Need to get back to repaints (I am better and much faster at that).

Placing an order with Skyworks in mid Jan. Going to get the following in built form sans paint (I am going to do that just for the fun of it):

Komet
Fw-190A

Then depending on how much I like those:

P-51C
Hurricane

Gotta convince VMF214 to get me some floats for the Zero = Rufe as well.

I am back in action after a week long vacation to the city of sin. Though I actually spent no time on the Vegas strip, gambling, or any other funny business. Had a better time though! Driving with 80+ other Shelby Mustangs on the road course and such.

Anyway, what does this do with custom 1:18 aircraft schemes? I guess I have to get back to work is what it means! Thanks to a fellow member I now have the gear finally fixed on my FW-190D-9! I am really close on that damn !@#$@#$ Ohka, and ready to post up the other Zero I did. From there I think I will try to kick my F-86 into high gear and call that one done!

Now that I am back I will try to get more pics up! -Promise.

Since Sabrefan is drooling, I'll repost these pics of a kitbash. Took a "Mitch" bird and re-did all the markings into an SAAF F86F-30 fighter-bomber. Also added the pylons and bombs. I think it turned out nice...?

TKO

You know I've got a plain jane F-16 here that is screaming to be turned into an Israeli Scorpoin one.

If you ever decide to do these for people surely let me know, I'd love something like that. You're work is great! I'm not that great at painting to even attempt something like that.
