Like I need another project, but there is a short coming in the Japanese aircraft available in 1:18. PH where's the Tony?

Excellent work!

Was there ever any comparison done to a Rufe and a regular Zero, did the float system take away a lot of the handling qualities and speed of a Zero? Basically, what was the comparison between the two in terms of performance, I'd be interested to know.

Speed of course as the Rufe's top speed was 270 which ain't bad! The Rufe had a lateral stability problem that was cured with the fin on the bottom of the tail. Overall it performed quite well to the complete shock of allied pilots that faced them early one. They were still vulnerable in the same way as the zero as far as no self sealing tanks etc. The zero's only protection was a little armor in the pilot's headreast/roll bar, but on the Rufe's these were ommitted! Still if you encountered one and thought about downing a nice easy seaplane you would be in for a surprise if the plane was being piloted by a competant pilot..
