1/18 Panther RC conversion

Post by borealis » Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:07 am

After converting the BBI Sherman to RC, I decided it was time to have a Panther rolling out.
But this time it's going to be an outside runner, therefore the tracks and sprocket will be replaced using Tamiya's 1/16 scale parts.
The difference will not be very noticeable, and it should have no problem on any terrain.

The interiors will be borrowed, as usual, from Heng Long spare parts, to keep the whole project cheap.

The HL gearboxes require the front lower plate to be cut and reshaped using aluminium.

The electronics are put on a balsa wood platform, suspended over a foam cushion to dampen vibrations.

The switches are put on a traverse bar, and the battery pack will be put just after them.
The test run went good.

Nice work :D This should look very cool when completed! 21c really should have expanded their 1:18 RC lineup as what they did was pretty well done for the pricepoint. I've thought about doing a similar RC conversion, but with a 21c Sherman using the 21c Panzer IV RC parts. It will have to wait for another time...

The UV led has its own cell battery and switch in the commander's cupola.

The brass airsoft barrel cut to lenght and tapered.

Very nice!
The sign of a great model is that one’s eye is not drawn to any one feature, yet one can study it for hours and continually find something new.
