Matorro KT Repaint...

Post by ostketten » Thu May 29, 2008 5:15 pm

A work in progress... :) The stock paint on the 1/16th Matorro KT is simply hideous in my opinion, so I decided to repaint mine. I'm just getting started on it... the base coat is on, the roadwheels are camo'd and several camo patterns have been applied to the hull. All the hull fittings, spare tracks, cables, tools, etc. and the main tracks have been removed to facilitate painting, and these will be painted and re-attached when the tank is done being camoflaged. I'm pretty pleased with the results so far, and when it's done I hope it will look similar to the model in the second pic.... 8) Yeah I know.. it has a Porsche turret, but I think the paint scheme will look just as good on a Henschel.. :D Click thumbnails to enlarge.

Looking good so far! And yes, that stock paintjob was FUGLY.

I'm doing the same thing, but I kinda put it off for a little while.

Do you have any idea yet which KT you will represent?

Thanks Googly.. yeh, the factory paint was AWFUL, the brown, or what was supposed to be brown looked like cheap lipstick or something... I knew as soon as I saw it I was gonna repaint it. Can't wait to see yours when it's done, if it's anything like your Panther it will be a beauty for sure. 8) As for which KT it will represent..?? Had not given it much thought to be honest... if you are referring to vehicle insignia/markings, I was kinda leaning toward Archers dry transfers, they make several 1/16 sets for Tigers, but I'm not sure if those are all for the Tiger I or not. If you have any suggestions in this regard I would sure like to hear them, thanks.

I'm super-detailing mine, but I'm kinda stuck because I can't find one of the lifting hooks on the rear hull.

And yep, archer transfers is a must-buy. You will LOVE the way it looks over zimmerit. :D

As for suggestions...have you considered the S.Pz.Abt. 503? They are one of the most popular Tiger units, fought almost everywhere, and they have pretty cool camo.

That's the marking of a Tiger I of the 503rd during the Kursk offensive. But you can use the markings for the Tiger II, because they're in scale enough. And you can switch the numbers, so you have the options of making 233, 332, etc.

If you've seen the very first 1/32 FOV King Tiger, that's a pretty damn good representation of a 503rd King Tiger. :)

OK, thanks for the info, I'll check it out. I have all three of the 1/16 Tiger full vehicle sets from Archer, the Kursk 503 set, plus LAH, and Leningrad 502. Haven't decided which one to use, but I have plenty of time before I'll have to make up my mind.
