possability of making twin mustang &andtwin me 109z and
i am a new member here but not new to modelling or working on the real thing ,but now retired. i noticed after going thru a lot of the blogs that there are many talented members here and have wondered what with the available mustangs&me 109 and zeros that no one has tried to do these conversions, they certainly look feasable. i have a set of floats off and old 1/24 de havilland beaver that would be ideal to hack up , maybe some one has an idea for the small wing top floats?any way going to start lookinf for some cheap p51;s&me 109' and try to get these projects started. any ideas or imput would be greatly appreciated.

There was a little talk about the F-82 but the matching of two P- 51s to make a F-82 is a little more than hooking up two P-51s.
As I can remember
1. The fusesalages are longer.
2. the landing gear is relocated in the fuse rather than the wings.
3. Radiator scoops are different.
4. Canopys needs to be relocated.
5. Of course center wing panel needs to be fabed.
6. As well as the rear stab.
7. The front nose scoops need to be reworked.
That is all that I can remember.
The twin 109 was a paper project. So you have liberties.
The Rufe (Zero with floats) was dicussed but nothing has been done yet.

Funny that this post mention a Rufe. I am in the process of trying to make a Rufe out of the 1/144 Zero first and then 1/32 and finally moving up to the BBI 1/18 Zero - (baby-steps). The most difficult part is coming up with the exact dimensions of the float along with the modification to the airframe. I am still in the research mode of this project of gathering all of the details/measurements, photos of Rufe so that I can start on the fabrication of the float.

Warhawker, I'm about to start a rufe as well. I have some good Matsuba Minoru plans which I'm going to use. If you want I can email you a set. I compared them to Tamiya's profile and they are slighty different (of course!) , however Minoru's drawings are supposed to be pretty good and there is more information in the Minoru drawings eg float profiles.

Hey Jay, I would take a copy as well. What do you want for a copy?Jay wrote:Warhawker, I'm about to start a rufe as well. I have some good Matsuba Minoru plans which I'm going to use. if you're not too fussy, a twin mustang would be pretty easy to do....but if you want it to look close to the real thing then it's a lot of work; virtually a scratchbuild.
Someone was going to do a 109z once but nothing more was heard of it, i don't think.
A Rufe is often talked about and i suspect there are ones existing out there, just that nobody has posted pics. I expect we'll see an after market conversion kit one day.

If you go to a hobby shop that sells R/C stuff they have these brass tubes. They are areodynamicly designed. They come in all different sizes. This is what I was going to use when ever I got to THAT project.KAMIKAZE wrote:I am still working on a Rufe as well. I have the main float almost finished. The main problem I have is going to be putting something like a steel rod into the resin casting of the main float and outriggers so they don't just break off when you pick it up.
