Bar you do some very nice work. I love all the detail in your pieces.

I do have a few questions I would like to ask, and I'm sorry if you answered them previously I looked through this thread and didn't find them. I am looking at getting into vacuum forming some parts and I'm looking for as much insight as I can find.

Do you do your own vacuum forming? If you do did you build your vacuum form machine yourself, or do you use a commercial unit?

Are the Starfighter, and Viper vacuum formed, if so were you able to get the panel lines and other details in your bucks or did you have to add that after the process.

You say that you are using 2mm plexiglass and 30 thou styrene, are there other materials or thicknesses that you use? Are there materials or thicknesses that you avoid?

Again I appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Thanks

Found this cool 1/72 scale German paper PJ down-load, it just may make the perfect template, I think I may just have to try and scale it up and see what it looks like.

I already scaled that one up to 1/24. It can be done(I've only done the shell, not any interior/panelling work):

I get a local company to do it for me. I do all the donkey work to save money, and then they do the forming for me when they get the time.

Nope, they will both be resin kits. The Viper was made one piece, and then rubber molds were made. From this, i took two sets of skin castings so the end result will be hollow to allow for lighting.

I use whatever's at hand. I have a large stock of different thicknesses of styrene sheet and MDF just in case i need it.
If you have specific queries on any of my work, please don't hesitate to ask(I will post links to all my photo-bucket galleries at the bottom of this post). My e-mail is vipermark7 at googlemail dot com. Any question will be answered.

G’day Bar and others

Well in a thinly disguised bump, here is my quick and dirty SG team, the figures are based on the BBI SEAL Night-Ops figure and the weapons are from Gun-Runner’s SG set, I’m still on the hunt for suitable SG cast meber like sculpts to replace the BBI stand-ins currently in use (one of which is the Delgado figure so if anybody out there can find me two that would be great). I also plan to have a female sculpt in the team when I find the right one.

Image

As you can see they are in desperate need of that scaled-up PG above (but in 1/18th) and a suitablely scaled shell would be a excellent starting point.

Also how are your USS Prometheus and Daedalus miniatures coming along?

I also noticed in your Photobucket album that you had the Diamond Select Toys four piece gate.

Image

This gate is far too small for the figures that it comes with but would be quite passable for a 1/18th scale gate (I only have one piece with the Lt.C Carter figure), have you considered making a casting of your complete gate? If you do I love to buy one (or two) from you, as to buy all the figures down here to get the full ring and ramp is far, far too expensive, besides I’d be wanting at least to rings, one for the SGC and another to set up for off world. I believe now also that there is an Atlantis ring with the Atlantis figures, do you have this one yet?

Hey there!
Thanks for the bump.
I like your team. They look pretty cool.
In answer to your question, the diamond select gate is about 1/24, and not quite 1/18.
I order for it to be properly 1/18, you'd need to scratch yourself one with a diameter of 40cm.
As mentioned before, i am making one in 1/24(The Diamond select one is rubbish), and mine will be accurate...
The Daedalus if finished and cast up. I got a test casting a short time ago. Read more here.

If anyone has any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Dr. Daniel Jackson

Ok I've tweaked one of the figures with a bandana in attempt to get him to look a little more like Daniel, I intend to repace the mobile/PDA thingy with a camcorder and am working on ideas to make his glasses. I also wish to use the arms from the BBI Navy figure J.T.Lucas (if I can get hold of any that is) to update the articulation on all of the figure has the cut joints well simply don't cut it.

I can see clearly now......

Here you can see that I have tried to fashion some spec's for Dr Jackson, I have also attempted to neaten up the knot and tails of the bandana.

That's looking really great!
I liked the bandana version too.
And good work on the glasses!

Hey Bar,

Great looking stuff...as always.

I was wondering about the F302; I know you said it wasn't scaled properly for 1:18, more closely for 1:24, but how close were you to being complete? Second, did you scale out the cockpit to fit 1:18 figs? If you did, there would be many of us [especially at the Joe boards] that would still be interested in the 302 even if not completely to scale, but still fits Joes [like all the DragonHawk conversions last year].

Inquiring minds want to know...thanks.

I never got any further than the progress that was posted, i'm afraid.
And although the 1/18 figures might have fit in there, they would have been snug.
I still have the thing in the loft in the garage.
I am tempted to start a new one with better reference i got, but this will
be a new build of the latest version of the 302 from the Atlantis show(And later SG1 episodes).
And it would be 1/24, i am sorry to report...

Thanks for the update.

I still think that there is demand for a nicely done F302, even if it is done at 1:24. Could you sell a separate 1:18 cockpit insert? If you couldn't fit two figs in it, one would still be cool.

I just can't let the dream of a useable F302 die...

As i posted before, i once made another 302 that was meant to be 1/24, but i had my figures wrong!
It scales out to about 1/32 in reality, but it was a nice master. I got the central intake wrong, and the wing leading edges were incorrect, but overall i was happy with it.
I have in lying around somewhere, although it would take a bit of work to get it back into castable condition again.
Here are some pics for those who haven't seen it:
