I am currently in the process of making a customized Afrika Corps Panzer IV G, and may have to consult with you on how to create proper weathering techniques

Unfortunately, neither of those models were used in Afrika. The 251D and steel wheeled Tiger came later.

Unfortunately, neither of those models were used in Afrika. The 251D and steel wheeled Tiger came later.

Wasnt the tiger used in the late days of the war in Africa

Yes, but it was the early version with rubber clad wheels, a different cupola, and Feifel air cleaners.

IS this what one looked like, cause if so, the only difference I see are the wheels, but thats it, where would the sand filters go?

I am impressed young man. I certainly didn't have the skill to do that when I was your age. Good show. And, as far as some of the tach details go, I wouldn't worry too bad. That weathering is just kick ass.

The Africa Tiger I also has the commanders "drum style cupala(sp)". Some suggestions for doing DAK equipment. The desert is very dry. Equipment doesn't rust as much as in wetter climates. In addition blowing sands keep the rust scrubbed off. The Tigers that arrived in Africa wouldn't have had the DAK symbol painted on the gray color. As very late arrivals to the campaign, they would have been painted sand yellow first and the DAK painted over the sand color.

First things first; outstanding effort on both pieces. I too have a DAK Hanomag Ausf D, so I'm not gonna fuss at you about it's historical accuracy. A couple points have already been made regarding the Tiger, the most noticiable being the wrong road wheels. I'm in the same boat regarding mine. However, with FOV's Tiger that will hopefully be released soon, we'll ultimately have a donor tank to provide the correct road wheels. Another thing was the gun mantlet. The area where the gunner's sights are located was not raised on the North African Tigers. I've modified mine somewhat, I think I'm almost satisfied with the result.

One that's about as big as the road wheels is the Commander's Cupola. I transplanted the cupola from a Panzer IV, and I think it turned out fairly well. This is actually a fairly simple mod.

As for the air cleaners, I figure I'd try to get away with a set off of one of those Hen Long 1/16 RC Tigers. My scratch building skills are nowhere near what I'd like them to be, I sometimes I have to cheat.

Last but not least, there were no DAK Palms on Tiger tanks.
