Corsair I (Warning large photos)
Corsair I (Warning large photos)
As most of you know I am a total corsair nut, and one of the things I've been wanting is an F4U-1 "birdcage" in 1/18. Not very likely that one of the big three is going to make one of these, so I decided that I would see if I could build one myself.
I'm using the front canopy, and very rear canopy from an Avenger. I'm in the process of fitting the canopy pieces to the plane. When I'm satisfied with the way it looks I will paint the frame work to match the plane.
Let me know what you think.

Thanks for all the kind words, but I'm not done yet.
The canopy sets a little to high, and I have been working it down a little at a time. I don't want to get in too much of a hurry as I'm not sure if I'll be able to find another avenger canopy.
As a matter of fact if anyone has the canopy off of an avenger they want to sell let me know. There are a couple more birdcage corsairs I would like to do.
On this particular plane I'm not going to add the cutouts in the turtle deck, and I have photos to show that not all birdcages had the cutouts. I would like to eventually make one with the cutouts.
And if you all are wondering why I'm using the British corsair it is because all British corsair had eight inches clipped from each wing with the exception of the corsair I, and since the 21st British corsair doesn't have the clipped wing it should be a corsair I.
