A Flight In A Curtiss Pusher, August 1910

Post by Coreyeagle48 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 12:39 pm

It is a cloudy but beautiful Sunday afternoon in the scenic Lehigh Valley near Allentown Pennsylvania. It is a warm August 1911 day and people around the Lehigh Valley are excited to hear that the Allentown Fair is soon apporaching. This year's fair will feature one of the first demonstrations of the airplane, a new invention to the people of this very rural part of Pennsylvania.

The airplane is a Curtiss Pusher, it has arrived from the Curtiss factory in upstate New York. The pilot is Mr Glenn Curtiss himself. He wants to make sure the demonstration of this airplane goes perfectly. Staying on a nearby farm, Mr. Curtiss decided to take his machine for a simple test flight before the fair begins on Tuesday. His handy mechanice Mr. Simms and his friend Mr. Owen hold the airplane as Mr. Curtiss checks his controls.

Still holding the airplane, Mr. Curtiss does a few more checks of the controls.

Mr. Curtiss grips the wheel and prepares for his assistants to release the aircraft. With the threat of rain very near, Mr. Curtiss wants to get this flight in quickly.

But wait, some specators have arrived, It appears that the Hausman family has spotted the airplane on their way back from church. Mr Riley has also spotted the airplane on his way to delivering goods from his farm to the local market.

The Hausman family has their daughter along, they have a great place to watch.

So does Mr. Riley

Looks like the airplane will be flown any minute. Mr Riley is anxious, he has to get his potatoes to the market.

A perfect day for an airplane flight in 1911!!!

Cool plane and I love the pilot figure! About what scale are these? You've got to find some more "scale" scenery and take some black-and-white pictures of the setup
