Roy really didnt do that much? some minor research that is easily done by anyone. The problem with 21st is no money. I dont believe they have the funds to produce any new planes or very much of anything else. they have cancelled more items then they have come out with in the last year.

Roy actually did quite a bit of stuff. He was often taking his work home with him to stay ahead. Research does take time and it actually demands a bit work to double and triple cross check the facts to get them all correct as they can be. Mistakes happen they always do but he worked REALLY hard. Lots of those guys worked very hard and had to wear many hats to push through all the stuff we used to get. I think that was the real reason why I stood behind 21C so often. Those guys had my respect because I had a unique vantage point as AREA-21 president. They really were some good people and good friends.
Roy and I even once spent a whole weekend in Vegas together just hanging out and talking about life, XD, kids, and Mustangs. Great memory, Great times. I had other fun experiences with other members on the staff. Had a couple great conversations with the CEO, at dinners in NYC during Toy Fair. They were really good to me.

As for 21C, I am not sure myself as I am pretty far out of the loop from the old days. My last conversation with a 21C employee was Halloween night and before that it had been a month or more. So I can't say that I know much more than any of the rest of us what is really up.

My best guess is that the economy is pretty tough right now for everyone 21C is no different. i also think that the aggressive plans to bring out those large scale projects could not have come on the eve of a worse time. They were a great idea and they should have been done a year earlier in my mind. Personally I don't see how taking any risk that large today is good for anyone. Healthy or not.

As for repaints, well they can be sticky themselves. Some molds frankly are not ever going to be seen again in my opinion. Like the P-47's. Or even the Spits. 21C has already told me they would not revisit them rather make a new mold with upgraded parts and different variants. (this info is almost 6 months old now).

21C is either regrouping or feeling the pressures of the times. In my book that reads no repaints and little to no new products on the horizon. Because we actually have little fact to go on I am choosing to leave nothing to chance. It's why I have a dozen custom project done and another dozen in the works, its why I have 2 88's and I wish I had 2 more. It's why I buy the old figs when I see them and keep them in packages for a rainy day. It's why I don't have any problems paying upwards of 100 bucks or more for a Spitfire when I see one on Ebay. I for one am not ready to see the hobby die or even slow down so I am making my own version of 2008 / 2009 XD history.

2009 will see me with a FW-190A, Komet, and a P-51B in the collection. Perhaps a Hurricane. and I hope a Dauntless, F-16 T-bird and others. if not my airbrush will be there with more repaints to come. My point- make your own magic as best you can. Buy pieces, support custom business if it all that there is to choose from. Might mean more money investing = fewer pieces but it's all we got right now. We have to wait together to se the fate of 21C it's competitors and this hobby. Meanwhile I am still having my version of fun!

I remain a 21C patriot and I hope for the sake of this hobby that it's just a regroup effort. If not it was a great ride and the legacy of their work and impact on our hobby will not likely be eclipsed by any other single company.

Roy knows his stuff thats for sure.but come on they released 6 new items this year and some where repaints.. Research is at your fingure tips. I have piles of books that can tell you what, when, where and how in a few hours. Books with over 500 color plates of every known paint scheme for aircraft and tanks.every unit that fought in WWII with what types of vehicles they used. I can look at a picture and tell you by the headlights which factory produced it. They arent inventing the wheel here.
Its not rocket science.
Im sorry but you look at 21c thru the eyes of a fan. im a fan aswell but when you sell the stuff its totally different.
lets face it 21c is poorly run and yes getting rid of Roy was another bad decision. but that doesnt mean they cant keep producing historically accurate pieces. Theres guys in this forum who could give them more details than they would need to make a great tank or plane. Im sure in less than a couple days.
Ive spent hours with those guys and they a very nice people. but they just dont or wont listen to the stores and buyers. thats why they are bound to fail. unless they turn it around. They are one of my favorite companies. I just wish they would really look at the market and not try and do everything and nothing at the same time!
