21st Century Toys 1:18 Information Q&A (Area-21 Pres)
Hi TKO,
can you help me out in obtaining, or finding replacement helmets for Private Keitel, Sgt. Davis and Cpl Jennings? Can you please tell me where to also find Cpl Mansfield's posed right arm, or Cpl. Jennings left posed arm?
Telling me what was used to glue the chinstraps to the helmets would be great too.
Will there ever be a 1:18 b17?

Here are some quick answers...
I have not heard of any plans for a Stuart in 1:18 scale. I have been told new vehicles are coming this year but I would not plan on any of them being the Stuart as it has never been a topic of discussion that I can recall.
Spare parts?... Gosh, that is an excellent question. I have seen a parts pile at the 21st HQ that they will pick through to help when they can but to be honest I doubt they will have the items you are requesting. I once got a windshield from a winter stuka from them. Something like that is pretty easy to track down. a specific arm, helmet from a figure I am guessing is much more difficult of a request to process. Especially on a 5 dollar item. Just my opinion. You might just want to roll the dice on the customer service line to see what they can do.

I doubt that, a B-17 would be HUGE, it is just not a reality, the thing would be like 6X7 feet or so.

Could 21st Century have it as a promotion where people who want it would pay before they produced it, or have it as a very limitted prize to some contest? It would be very unlikely this could work at a local retail level, but it could work if the promotion was entirely focused on collectors, novilty shops, and musium gift shops.

there was a plan for a 1:16 scale b17 for 100 the guy who drew up the plan was going to shrink it down to 1:18 but i could not find a person who would do lazer cut all the peace that i wanted.
if we can get enough people together the company might lazer cut the peace but it will cost around $300 for the b17 but if you know of any one who do it cheaper let me know..thanks

whats up doc....
Very few people collect here now because all you can find on the pegs and store shelves here are hasbro GI joe and that's not the 1:6 realistic ones and Corps. Everything else doesn't exist and is expensive to get on Ebay. Many stores that carry this stuff don't ship to Canada, or charge an arm and a leg.
My buddy who doesn't use the net asked me a while back where I got some of my newest figures because he hadn't seen them back when stores carried cool military figs. He'd collect again if they were available locally and so would a lot of others.
I bet if 21st century did this b17 and made it for the collectors Canada would be excluded again. I've had a love-hate relationship with 21st century because in 2004 I couldn't join the fan club and in 2005 I couldn't participate with the contest that involved finding the most creative way for posing your 1:18 Marines. It's not a result of my own personal issues, just that I'm a Cannock.
That won't tare me away from XD because as long as they keep producing I'll keep finding ways to consume them.

TKo its been a while.
1-Does 21st have any interest producing 1:18 versions of smaller, yet historically significant aircraft such as the A-4 Skyhawk, F-8 Crusader? I'm sure Roy realizes how important these 2 were and how they were smaller than the F-104 and arguably more popular/significant(wait is the F-8 smaller? I dunno but I want one!). The A-4 alone can have a TON of schemes and be marketed to a ton of customers!
2-1:18 Macchi. Yey or ney? Thats one sweet slender looking bird. I hold off from 1:32 since i have hope this comes out in 1:18
3-The black bubble top jug. Will that go 1:18 or is it exclusive to 1:32?
4-Big Modern fighters. F-22, SU-30MKI, F-14, F-15.....since 21st is being more aggressive this year and facing increasing competition in the 1:18 plane field, are big modern fighters like those mentioned above being considered? F-4?
5-Would 21st take another stab at doing an F-4 since its bigger releases have been success at retail and online?(lightning, F-104, huge demand for avenger).
6-What does 21st think about going back to TRU? Will it? Is it even considered?
7-Could the MIG-15 easily be retooled/repainted into an S2 MIG-17?
8-Will 21st improve the durability of the plastics/construction on their figures? My cobra pilot has joints that can pop off and not as much ease of movement as my BBI hornet pilot.
9-21st retooled their P-51. Since other competitors are making highly detailed warbirds to the delight of fans, will 21st retool and of their other original releases?
10-Since 21st is making an F-86, how about an F-100 or F-86D dogsaber? F-105 Thunderchief?
11-1:18 SR-71 blackbird. Its one of a kind! Hey better I ask this than for a 1:18 scale space shuttle(I did consider this at one point).

I understand that once a committment to a plane or vehicle, it would be very costly to abandon it, but seems strange to me that different companies releases are similiar or the same makes.
21C has Corsair, P-51D and coming soon Me 262, Zero, F-86, Mig-15, Avenger, ???
BBi has Zero (2 paints schemes already) and various P-51D's plus some modern jets, plus Corsair.
AT has new F-86, coming soon Me 262, and coming soon Zero ( on box artwork for F-86)
Granted 21c started it all and have a larger more diverse catalog of 1/18 planes and vehicles, and I have most of them!
Seems to me that marketing dept would try to put something out that no one else is doing once they found out. And put the resources to another plane or vehicle.
Do we need 3-4 Zeros? 4-5 different varitions of Corsairs, or 4-6 P-51D's? For me I'm not going to buy 10 different P-51D's with slightly different paint schemes.
For me, I would abandon the Zero project and create another japanese wwII plane, a Val, a Kate, a Tony (being the only inline engine fighter) or even a George, or ?
probably someones marketing research indictated the most "popular" planes and thus garanteed sales. Except now the collecting consumer is going to be choosy on which model they buy, and that will dampen sales all around.
Of course that assumption could be wrong. I've been buying alot to "get 'em now before their gone forever"

I really do not know where the 1:18 Zero from 21st is currently. What I do know is that newer projects like the Me-262, F-86, and MiG-15 all are further along in development and have distribution plans for this year. I have not heard of the Zero for 06. It veru well could be that 21st has opted to do other releases now. It could be that they wanted to see how 1:32 scale Zeros would do first? It really is hard to say. I see strong arguments to see it made for mass distribution and I also see a strong argument to move on to something else. Never know...
As far a decision to make the P-51D... Well personally I am really glad 21st re-tooled the P-51D. The old mold was showing its age as it was the mold that started 1:18 scale, close to a decade ago.
The P-51D is a very popular, well liked, and well received WWII airplane. I think the P-51D is going to be a great favorite plane that can come back for several years with many interesting schemes. Granted most people will not buy everyone but I would bet money that soemtime down the road no matter how many P-51's you might own, a new scheme will catch your eye.
The Bunker Hill Corsair from 21st is a prime example. Not everyone will buy it. But many have! It is a GREAT scheme and we are going on something like S7? for that one? My bottom line is that you really can't be the company that pioneered the 1:18 scale realistic military market and not have a Great P-51 Mustang to offer fans. But that is just my opinion.

Granted, the very popular planes would be expected. It would seem logical to have a P-51B in the line up as well, as you have the P-47's in razorback and Bubbletop.
Variety is the key! Not just repaints. But as you said before somewhere or someone, collector types are the minority market for buyers.
I am really surprised that 21 C went with a FW 190 D, instead of the A short nose radial engine plane.
Anyway, keep that feed back pumping into the company! As a website owner and product producer myself, there can never be enough feedback to fine tune the product.
21C has come a long way from S1 Bf 109.

Well you right there! I wasn't going to buy it until Badcat came out with thier Bunker Hill Avenger, I had to get one now. Still, I wish 21st would have done the "B" model Mustang instead. I hope in the future if another company decides to do yet another one, they will go with the "B" for the Mustang or a later model Corsair with the four bladed prop.tko211 wrote:

Avenger
TKO:
First, I must say that ALL the new Avenger paint schemes look great!! My budget limits me to one at a time.
Can you confirm what carrier the Atlantic Avenger represents? I do recall VC-55 from the Block Island, but just would like confirmation.
Will the other 4 aircraft of Flight 19 be represented? And a more typical Pacific Theater tricolor version without the 1945 geometric ID markings? If the George Bush aircraft is done, it was pretty generic but a good 1944 example. He flew off the San Jacinto.
Regards,
JimBob

Cool! I thought so, but I couldn't locate TKO's report of that right off.
Thanks,

Does 21st century toys plan to expand the "Russian front"?
The Mig 15 is a start, so do you plan to make any WWII Russian Aircraft and Tanks?

La-5
Yak-3
Il-2
Tanks
T-34/76
T-34/85
SU-152
BT-7

How about a T-55 Tank to go with that Mig-15?
Thank you for your time TKO and 21st century toys

Stop frames
Yes, TKO, I am in the process of editing a stop frame animation trailer for a full length movie I have been working on since 2002. I want to run it by the folks at 21st. The movie is not going to be for sale, my goal is just for viewing pleasure. However, I am curious what the people at 21st would think of it. Who can I contact at 21st to give them a preview of this work in progress?

TKO,
1-Which paint schemes can we expect from the new tool mustang with the gun lockers? I am aware the first few releases will not have the gun lockers.
2-Will distribution EVER improve? In virginia beach I am apalled that we are yet to even see a starfighter yet...not even ONE! Hell the german one is out and before you know it, smoke II will be passing us by as well. I am itching, for I know 21st plans to release the sabre and MIG-15 in summer...and of course I'd rather buy it at brick and mortar than order online.
3-WIll upcoming new tool mustangs feature weathering? I like the weathered look...these are warbirds after all. How about the sabre?
4-After the sabre and mig...are there any other jets in the pipeline planned? If they are going in a chronological order I'd expect a 60-70's fighter that would sell a ton...F-8 Crusader, F-100 super sabre, or F-4 PHANTOM anyone? Thud?
5-Distributionw was a ton better@TRU. Back when they first came out, I could find anything XD@TRU. I cannot say the same for walmart. I feel bad for 21st....so many more fans could enjoy these wonderful toys but this distribution nightmare kills those dreams. I miss the days when XD was EASY to find! ....surprisingly I can find BBI' stuff a LOT easier at TRU in comparison with trying to find XD at walmart. I know maybe this is walmart's fault, and this is not directed towards 21st, but maybe going back to TRU would be better for them?
