In honor of the Douglas theme that Admiral Toys has coming out, I think that the next AT 1:18 AC that we will see at Toyfare will be any one of the following listed below. These are the most produced fighter planes that Douglas has come out with.

Fighters:
SBD A-24 Dauntless A-24 Banshee (Coming Out)
TBD Devastator (possibility)
AD (A-1) Skyraider (Coming Out)
F5D Skylancer (Posibility)
A-4 Skyhawk (Possibility)
F-4 Phantom II (McDonnell Douglas) (Many Rumors)
AV-8 Harrier II (McDonnell Douglas) (Possibility)
F-15 Eagle (McDonnell Douglas) (Possibility)
F/A-18 Hornet (McDonnell Douglas) (Will not duplicate in 1:18)
F/A-18E/F Super Hornet (McDonnell Douglas) (Will not duplicate in 1:18)

Of the Possibility list above, I believe that it could most likely be the F-15 since AT already has WWII, Korean, & Vietnam era planes in production or produced. They just may make the step in the Modern era.

The most likely suspect to be the third plane at TF this next weekend, will most likely be the F-4Phantom II as there is high rumors of this being produced.

It will be a F-4Phantom II.

Will they go the direction towards the Helocopter? If so, the Helo companies that are in conjuction with Douglas are listed below:

AH-64 Apache (Will not duplicate in 1:18)
CH-46 Sea Knight (Possiblity)
CH-47 Chinook (maybe too big)
RAH-66 Comanche (with Sikorsky) (Would be a nice compiment with the AH-64 Apache from BBI and AH-1 Cobra from 21st.)

Guys I don't think the new mystery plane is an F-5.
I think the reason Jason doesn't mention it much is due to the way it was uncovered; remember it was revealed on an ebay auction and I don't think thats how Admiral Toys wanted it unveiled. Plus its something we knew about before the skyraider and dauntless, therefore; not as new to us.

I think the new 1/18 plane to be unveiled sunday is...

1-a jet
2-a fighter
3-something to bridge the gap between korea-modern era fighters
4-something MOST of us have been pining for.
I think the 1/32 line will have a few jets thrown in to test the scale, the 1/18 F-5 and the mystery plane will be there to guage interest in comparison to the 1/32 line.

I took a bit of a gander through some old posts looking for tidbits about Admiral making an attempt with the A-10. About a year ago, Jason dropped the following that could make a case for the A-10.

It personally makes Admiral Toys Incorporated nervous that such enthusiasm must have certainly convinced one of the other companies to produce the A-10; therefore, we are in a wait and see mode with the A-10. I hope the other companies are not in the same wait and see mode or you might be in for a long strike!

I wanted to just give everyone a look at a simplified short flow chart of the process of making models. The flow chart will show you the steps required to produce a model. It takes anywhere from 6 to 12 months to offer a new model to the public. Here is a simplified flow chart to describe the process.

1. Master Model (referred to on this site as a prototype) is produced.
2. Modifications of Master Model
3. Tooling of the molds
4. Then we take a couple of shots (injections) to see how the molds are taking the plastic.
5. T1 which is the first official shot is completed
6. Modifications of the molds after T1.
7. Engineering Samples are produced.
8. Modification of Engineering Samples.
9. Design is produced, what paint job is going on the model.
10. Tampo-printing screens are made and spray masking tools are produced. A tampo-printing screen is kind of like a money printing plate. It is a thin metal sheet that has a cut out of what you want printed on the model. Then a silicon head comes down on the screen after paint is wiped over the screen. That silicon head then presses down on the model. If either screen or head needs modifying this means starting over with all new parts. Spray Masking is the process used for painting large areas of models. The spray masking tools are kind of like kitchen tongs that hold the model and have the areas to receive paint cut out of them. This allows for fast painting of stripes, noses of aircraft etc. Each requires tooling and modifications which equates to time.

Hopefully you see by this simplified flow chart that it takes a long time to get a model out. Therefore the chance that another company starts the same project sometime during our production is likely. Therefore you will see copies of models. It is not our intention to copy a model being produced, it is sometimes just unfortunate timing.

Then in about May 2006 Jason was openly soliciting thoughts on specific details of the A-10 to make the toy acceptable if there needed to be some compromises. What I found interesting was that Jason seemed to be very well informed on what it would actually take to get this plane done.

Then the second full blown denial happened in Birddog's interview late in August. Keep in mind, the first denial of the Dauntless was to JimBob in earlier in August.

My thoughts are: 1) Certainly Jason has learned that his 6 to 12 month development timeframe is much longer than he originally hoped. 2) If they were going to break out a plane to take to Toy Fair to get a real idea of what their retailers would be on board with, it would be a good idea to take a model (possibly master sculpt) that is just about ready to be tooled so that they can make the go or no go decision. 3) If number 2 is right, six months (give or take) would be about the time needed to have a model ready for tooling to begin.

The A-10 or B-17 are real possibilities here. But be prepared for an Avenger type wait if it does...no not the THREE years Avenger wait! The 12 to 18 month one we saw from when the Avenger was shown at Comicon.

I orderd mine today and had a nice conversation with Isaiah . I am glad I did. He said that they are going to possibly put in a few extra decals to do a earlier model. The center red meatballs and red and white tail flash.

I'd be interested in this, too. Particularly after I've seen that there are five nicely documented paint schemes for the 2106 airframe!

I may need to get a second Dauntless and repaint it in the early 'yellow-wing' 2-B-2 Lexington version. (unless Admiral does it first!)

Both the Dauntless and the Skyraider look fantastic so far! Do I see an F8F Panther in your future ? FLY NAVY!

I will post answers to the various questions after toy fair. It is 5:30am and I need to sleep a little today!

Here is some information for the small scale individuals on this thread. At toy fair you will see an all new Pak 40 in 1:72 scale. This of course will be accompanied by the German 88 that has already been talked about. I love the detail on the Pak 40 and think you will as well. It has great movement.

As far as tanks go, you will view for the first time a production version (minus production paint) of the Crusader that we have been working on. It looks great. Also available is the Panzer III M, which is completed with production and will be in the US in a matter of weeks. The skirts have been thinned, and the turret retooled.

Now for the news that I have been waiting to disclose to you and our retailers: What will be talked about with our retailers in length at toy fair is the production numbers we will be producing the 1:72 scale line. Almost every item in the 1:72 scale lines will be switched to very limited numbers. Limited means less than 1,000 world wide distribution. And in most cases less than 500 units world wide distribution, without re-releases. Now that is limited!!!

BTW, the upcoming winter Pz III L looks awesome! I hope to see a version of the L with the schurzen soon, in a Kursk-type tan and green scheme. Also looking forward to the Pz III N with the short 7.5cm gun - with and without schurzen! Also please see about getting us a Stug on that Pz. III chassis!

From Jason's statements on Plane Nuts' post above regarding the planes that were listed, I forsee the third plane being either the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II, or the McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F-15 Eagle. This is because the previous two planes were both Douglas related aircraft being the Douglas SBD Dauntless A-24 Banshee and the Douglas A-1 Skyraider.

Which one of the three will it be?

Ok, here's something that's been stewing for a while for me.

So far Admiral has been building models for American planes that are all with trademarks held by Boeing.

Jason, has this been your concious decision to deal only with the one licensor, or are you going to be working with other companies to bring out a bigger variety. I like the North American/Douglas/McDonnell/Boeing potential, but there are others out there too!! And on a related question, who do you license the German stuff from?

I still think it's too early for AT to be doing huge twin engine jets. Profit and loss wise, AT has only released the F-86 and Me 262 to the world market. I would think they would need lots more profit and sales from a expanded product line to generate tooling for such a massive plane (F-15 or F4) As us fans demand more and more details and features with each new release

For Jason and all of us I hope that none of the other manufacturers snipes anything they come up with... Accidents happen of course, but there are still plenty of un-made items out there (especially in the ground department, ahem!!) for anyone to wrestle over an individual concept.

Hell, in 1:18 there isn't a single Russian WWII item and they fielded the largest force in the entire conflict!

I have been up since 4am putting the final touches on the Hartmann CL-13 with my brother. It is 6:46 now. We will leave for the show in a little while. Unfortunately for you the show does not start until 10am eastern time. You have a couple of hours to wait.

Furthermore, the aircraft has been sitting on a table for the last day! But I do not have my camera charged and we do not have time to post pics during the day.

Maybe someone from this site will stop in and take a photo.
