Or simply something German, "for the Fatherland"

Thats all I can think of, it's 4:25AM where I am, I am a bit drowsy.
Dang it, Moth beat me to it....."der Vaterland" instantly came to mind (hummmm, wonder why?!).....it must mean another Luftwaffe airplane, perhaps another CL-13/F-86!!!!!! That would be EXCELLENT; or perhaps a Bf-110, or let's go large and say-He111 or Ju52 (doubtful, but almost possible). A recon version of the CL-13, if they did fly recon!

Yep, Luftwaffe it is (ich warte gern auf!!)

hmm....much larger than a Dauntlass and father.

hmm. hm, hm, hm..

I'm going with Father being for Fatherland, so i'll guess Ju-88, which is much larger than a Dauntlass, but the smallest and thus most practical to make of the three main German bombers. Plus the Ju-88 would have a gatrillion possibilities for repaints, reworks into different versions etc.

Yes, it's the Ju-88.

Next game?

Hmm... kind of doesn't fit the category much larger than the Dauntless, but if does fit the Father clue (in the historical sense) and does tie back to one of the comments made on the Dauntless thread:

P-59 Airacomet!

Essentially the father of the American jet fighter age, AND a "comet". And with Admiral having introduced the first operational jet fighter, this would continue that theme.

Just a thought...

The father of all powered aircraft is the "Wright Flyer"

This thing would be a nightmare for the assembly line workers with all the struts and wires.

Nah... bad guess.

I do like the DC-3 guess. The Father of modern air transportation.

Another guess is the F-100. Was it not the Father of the century series jets?
Is the F-100 bigger than a Dauntless? The F-100 is 17' longer than the SBD but its wingspan is 3' shorter.

Hummm???

How about another bomber, same TO, perhaps some of the same battles?
The 1:32 version would be the son to the bigger father? :D
This may be wishful thinking because I'm hung-up on that Kate but I got nothing else for "Father" :?

Correct--Jason is sticking with his self-imposed rule of including the scale at the top of his post. And since the Dauntless is already confirmed as 1:18, the 1:18 at the top of the post would almost certainly apply to the new clue.

hmm.....i wonder if he meant 'father' as a verb and not a noun. In which case, Tomcats are known to father lots of children.

F-14 then. Also goes with a hint given some time ago about Feb 14 (ie F 14).

So, if it's WWII i'll say Ju-88 and if modern i'll go with F-14.

Plus, he did say that there are more kitten's in the litter. So, F-14 is a good guess.

This is a wild guess but I was reading a little about the history and development of the B-25 during the war and there was a fellow named Paul "Pappy" Gunn who made the conversions of the early models into the later ones starting with the B-25D into the Gunships. So you could kind of look at it like this:

Pappy(=Father)
+
Much larger then the Dauntless
=
a B-25D model or above.

Like I said a wild guess.

...and as support for the B-25 guess: what was the B-25's nickname? Mitchell. General Bill Mitchell was often regarded as the father of the USAF, having organized and commanded it during WWI, and was considered the father modern American airpower. He later emphasized the use of aircraft to bomb battleships and other strategic targets.

I know I'm still streching it, but couldn't resist  We're probably all way off the mark anyways

Hey tmanthegreat

I was thinking the same thing about Billy Mitchell, the gulled wing medium would certainly be a bit of a coup for AT if something that big is possible, it is bigger than a Dauntless, way bigger and that might be an issue, hope that I am wrong in that respect though.

I think as far as bigger stuff goes, you'd go into it from the planning stage on, as a series of smaller kits that in the end make one bigger kit for the collector when seen at the retail level.

Ok... so its bigger than a Dauntless.

One of the definitions of the word father is...... To be the creator, founder, or author of; originate.

So here is my guess....

Answer:

The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is the first US Air Force aircraft designed exclusively for CAS.

It is the "First" (Father) aircraft designed from a blank piece of paper to be an exclusice close air support attack aircraft.

Well, in line with the father talk. He mentions a P-51 and a Corsair in his post. It may very well be that the plane being unveiled will ba a B model Mustang. Because, the 21st Century Mustang is kind of the plane that fathered 1:18 planes. And, AT is not into copying. The B Mustang is now my official guess.

Though---any of the planes mentioned thus far are cool.

Interesting guessing thus far, I of course cannot tell you if you are correct until I get back from China later this week.

I will give you your second hint:

“Oil”

I know the hints are not much to go off, but you have proven that you have the uncanny ability to guess these aircraft way too well.

Good luck,
Jason

I know that Admiral does not want to copy from 21st, but my guess, for what its worth is:
"Father" Pappy Boyington
"Oil" Tape used on Corsairs to keep
the oil leaks from smearing the
cockpit.
I'll bet if Admiral did do this bird, the cowling would probably be openned and the wing folding mechanism would be so much more realistic.
Just my guess
