Admiral Toys Information Q&A (Jason)
I am going to make a guess on two aircraft that have not been mentioned before. My two guess are:
1. Aichi D3A1 Val Dive bomber
2. SB2 Vindicator Dive bomber
The Val would be my first guess since the engine cowl in these hint pictures are close.
The picture of the wing fold is similar to a Vindicator's wing fold.

not a Val......windscreen's wrong and wouldn't have wheel well since it's fixed u/c.
not a vindicator....cowl totally wrong, wheel wells wrong.
I don't know what the heck it is. Windscreen is wrong for a Kate, Jill, Helldiver and Dauntlass (plus many other details wrong for dauntlass) yet it's clearly a multiplace cockpit, radial engine, retractable undercarriage plane with folding wings, so it's carrier based.

It's a Kate, even the propeller looks correct.
Okay, Ill take a whack at your quote...
"there is one aircraft that was used in several wars, that civilians often fly, that I think would be a great addition to the 1:18th market. I will leave it up to you to guess which one I am talking about."
Kate?
OR
"I wanted to do an SBD-3 but it looks like it will not be done anytime soon. There are a couple of other models that we want to get out before tackling this aircraft. Maybe in the future, or maybe someone else will produce it. I personally love the Dauntless. I am sorry for the bad news."
Kate first?

Maybe, "dangling part" was a hint. Not participle, but part of the plane. Or maybe I am just making excusses for my bad english.Quixote511 wrote:Jason posted:

The grammar policeman in me is going to come out to haunt you. It is not a dangaling participle that you used. You did, however, end a sentence in a preposition. But, since you have been working hard to make this fun, I will cut you some slack.
Thanks for all of the fun Jason. Please know that this is appreciated. Merry Christmas!

Oh, what the hell!! Since Jason mentioned that the photos he posted may or may not be the plane for the give away, here is my newest guess:

Reading the post that Jason made about an aircraft that served in more than one war and can be seen flown by more than a few civilians today coupled with the pictures, leads me to believe it might be a SNJ Texan.
Of course if you assume that it isn't even the aircraft in the pictures at all it could be anything....

I would agree with the Texan. That doesn't fit with some of the clues, but Jason also said he may be talking about different models, so we may have multiple aircraft we're looking at. Other than the photos - which are open to interpretation - the only real clue we have is the 'two wars and civilian' reference. Now if he means actually used by civilians for transport, etc, that narrows it down considerably; anyone think DC-3/C-47?
But if it is a Warbird, it could be most anything used in two wars. The most obvious thought is the two wars were WWII and Korea, but could easily be Korea and Vietnam. Skyraider seems plausable; there has been demand for it and Jason stated a few of us would be very happy; but most clues don't fit that aircraft. The 'dangling' really has me thinking, <IF> that was a clue at all. Sigh....
Hmm, I just realized Admiral is based in Dallas, so any reference from Jason about Texas could have been the clue. There were quite a few messages where he talked about 'the products' in TEXAS'; 'it takes a long time for pieces to reach TEXAS'; etc. But unless I'm making more of it, he seems to say Texas more than he says Dallas. Of course he says China a lot, too.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm enjoying this mystery. We get a little more each day (unlike some other companies that hint, hint, hint but seldom produce any feedback), and it's certainly keeping the board interesting.

Good Morning All
Well it’s morning here at least.
I have put a little image together to try and see what we have got so far, I have made the assumption that all the used are from the one image and I have tried to arrange them in the correct position and fill in some gaps, however it is all a bit rough and probably wrong so do not place to much faith in the results.
There also appears to be a hint of an intake slung below the cowl (second image but I have not included this detail here.

That is a great guess, but he also mentioned that they were not currently producing any FAC aircraft and I would think that the Texan would fall into this category.
One other note on the photo with wing section. Vertically viewed may not be how it rests on the aircraft. Try and rotate the image and see what you get.

I just dropped in on this discussion so heres my thoughts and ideas on what this plane is or might be. I think its a Kate Japanese bomber or torpedo plane, one or the 2, I dont know. But its looks as though its Japanese because from the photos I have seen it resembles the Kate. I hope it is because I would love one of these in my collection. I would love it to be done in the colors of Commander Fuchida's Kate. If know one knows who he is he was the air commander of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
But I guess we have to wait until Jason lets the cat out of the bag and tells us what plane it really is.

Spudkopf I think you should get something for all your hard detective work you have put into this thing.
I have looked at this a little today and googled some words/clues that I thought might tie into a plausable plane, but have come up with nothing.
Could Jason may be leading us on a wild goose chase? Goose + Plane= Spuce Goose - That's it!!!
Okay back to reality...
Another clue would be nice!
(like the name of the plane)
How about the Manufacturer of the plane??

That's true, but the Texan was used by the RAF (known as the Harvard) in the 50s in Kenya against the Mau Mau. They were outfitted with 20lb bombs and machine guns. I know it was probably more like a skermish than a war but that depends on what you define as a war.warhawker wrote:That is a great guess, but he also mentioned that they were not currently producing any FAC aircraft and I would think that the Texan would fall into this category.
Either way, I'm sure whatever it is it will be a cool aircraft to add to our 1/18 collections.

There was somthing about a girls name as part of a clue wasn't there?
-Kate
There was a "splash" clue of some kind...
-Kate
There is the "one" word-ish clue for the name...
-Kate
Then there is the fact that the first photo of the wing root with a big faring mounted to what was obviously a radial engine aircraft body that told me it was a...
Kate.
But the real give away for me was the fact that the wheel well for the main gear was so far forward into the leading edge that it clearly had to be a 1930's era design. The panel lines are correct...
Likely japanese...
This clue narrowed it down very quickly.
ITS A KATE!
