I think it's a multi-engine that hasn't been guessed yet. The area that would be the wing/fuselage fairing doesn't appear as pronounced as it should for a single engine aircraft from that angle.

Moth google is my best friend just use "Nakajima kate" as your search criteria.

Or you can go to the site here, they sell resin engines for Japanese Planes:

i would like to point out that i said Kate a while ago. 8)

(of course there's no need to also point out that i changed my mind later....the point is i said it long ago..heh.)

I dismissed the possibility of a multi engine plane as the wing enters what would be the nacelle too low. On all planes with engines mounted in the wing the wing enters the nacelle about the mid point, not at the bottom.

I agree that a Kate seems most likely. And if so, very sharp eyes TKO! I wasn't even sure if it was a radial engined plane.

And if it is a Kate.....woohooo.......awesome choice. Will be a beauty in 1/18. :D

hm.....after closer inspection of Jason's second pic and comparing it to pics of the Kate's cowl, i'm less convinced it's a kate. The front of the cowl seems the wrong shape to me.

Alright smart guys, you think you have all the answers and one among you does. (However, I am not going to say when the answer was posted. It may not have made its way over to this side of the site.)

But let me break my own rules and give you another picture. Does this mix things up a little?

But that looks like a Corsair wing fold, I remeber a hint in that direction too, now your just messing with us!

But Corsairs do not have large wing root fairings, now my brain is hirting again.

Intruder, not with fabric covered surfaces!

The Kate’s aileron should be no where near the wing fold?

I haven't followed all the posts and pics but a Dauntless Dive Bomber in my opinion would be the best seller and should look really nice next to the BBI Hellcat, 21st Avenger and Corsairs. Just my thoughts. :?

I'm leaning towards a Skyraider.

Yes the flap is actually on the folding portion, on the Kate the flap is on the unfolding part of the wing now I'm confused :?:

I also think the Skyraider would not have fabric covered surfaces but I can not confirm this.

On the Dauntless this is where the perferated dive flaps would be so not a Dauntless.

The flap picture is not from the same plane. That is my guess. The flap picture looks like a Corsair flap to me. In the backgound there is a boxy step cutout. I am still sticking with Kate for the wing root / cowl photos.
