aferguson wrote:Yes Jason, i would very much like to see an 88 in 1/18 scale. I would most likely end up getting 6 of them, in various paint schemes (dark grey, dark yellow, DAK).

An 8 ton halftrack to tow it would be the icing on an already very sweet cake.
I don't know about 6, but I would buy one and a vehicle to pull it, if you are trying to get a head count on this.

 Count me in for 2-4 depending on price. I'd also prefer accessories (ammo boxes, ammo, casings) to actual crewmen. Plenty of german figures out there already.

:-D

Eitherway, I'm in and a _big_ thank you for even being open to the idea!!

If the price is low (Around $10-15) I will get one, but if you make the Halftrack that tows it, Ill get one regardless of price.

I'd buy two and pay around $45 to $50 depending on the level of detail; detail comparable to the 1/32 FOV with turning cranks, sliding gun. etc.

$10-$15?? Even the 1/72 scale version will probably cost more than that. I'm figuring $60.

that was just an upper ceiling guesstimate to keep things real here... It's a fairly complex piece which would have a lot of moving parts, probably extras like shells, cases etc and crew. The FOV 88 is more than their tanks are.

Even at a $50-ish price point, I would love to have an 88. Especially to support a smaller manufacturer. :D

I am down for one, maybe two, at a 50 dollar price point. However, the lower the price point, the more units I would pick up. I hope this happens. Thanx Jason.

PS--I already preordered my 262 and can't wait.

Thank you for the responses on the 88. We have not started production on it in 1:18, but were gauging interest in the model. We really like the artillery pieces and there are a ton of them to produce if this line was started.

Moth, smaller doesn’t always mean cheaper. This is the largest misnomer of the industry. A German 88 would not necessarily be cheaper to produce. Material cost may be less but tooling and production can cost more. There are LOTs of small parts on the 88. One small wheel to lower the barrel is just like one large wheel to move a tank. Parts are parts. They each have to be injected, painted, put on the model. Size doesn’t matter, complexity does.

That being said, I am in no position to state a cost if this thing was produced. So you will have to wait for further information… I will let you know either way in a couple of months.

On a side note:

Here is a master model of the Type 97 Shi Ki tank from Japan.

There is a lot of work to do on this one, but, it should be ready in the first half of '07.

As with all of our releases, it will have substantial metal content with minor parts being injected in ABS.

Hope you like what you see. Admiral Toys is excited about offering tanks that have never been produced before in 1:72. There are enough King Tigers, why not give the lesser known tanks a chance.

Are objective is to give the collector the opportunity to diversify their collection to include tanks that were part of history but did not receive the recognition of their counterparts.

Hope you enjoy the photos.
Regards,
Jason

A Shi Ki? Interesting choice. The Shi Ki was the command version of the Chi Ha. It had a 37mm gun in the hull in place of the mg and had a dummy gun barrel in the turret, where extra radio gear was stored. Certainly qualifies as 'lesser known'.

As far as the 1/18 88 goes, well, do it. Don't make me start a hunger strike... :)

Hi Jason,
Very nice indeed. Keep 'em coming, even if they are a few months off. I can see the posting of prototypes becoming a trend from here on out.

I was surprised you went with a Shi-Ki too instead of the standard Chi-Ha to start off the Japanese vehicles, but I'm sure the Chi-Ha isnt too far off either. Looks like a winner, as does all the other stuff you've been unveiling of late.

Very nice tank. Glad I don't collect the smaller sizes, I think you'd guys help break me

Back to the 1/18 88 - I'd definitely be in for at least one, more depending on price. I think that would be a very successful piece. I wouldn't even mind just getting the gun itself, without the towing equipment - if that got us the toy sooner :D

88 in 1:18

Post by tmanthegreat » Mon Sep 18, 2006 4:49 pm

I would be VERY interested in a 1:18th scale 88mm gun :D

There is alot of potential for incredible detail, even if it came with just the gun. You could give it working cranks for the traverse and elevation, opening breach, shells and that's just the start - if FOV could do it in 1:32, then you should be able to pull it off in 1:18! The gun is something that hasn't been done in 1:18 and I think there could easily be a market for one. 21c is planning a 1:18 PAK 40, so there must be some interest in 1:18 artillery beyond the collector market. They haven't indicated interest in producing a 1:18 88mm gun, so take advantage of the gap

Jason, another great tank. I was wondering if you guys have considered making some tank transporters in 1/72 scale based on WWII and perhaps modern trucks and trailers.

The Ixo/Altaya German WWII version has proved popular and I feel there is a good opportunity for Admiral to expand that market segment. Btw, don't listen to those 1:18 guys :)
