Until now the French air force kept its fighters in Tadjikistan (Duchanbe air base). But in the weeks to come, 3 Mirage F1 CR and 3 Mirage 2000 D will leave Duchanbe in order to be deployed in Kandahar.
These aircrafts are part of the internation task force in Afghanistan. Their air support capability is under american command in al-Udeid (Qatar). But the French military keeps strict rules of engagement. Bombings are possible only when ground troops will be in contact with the enemy.
Quoting an officer, the French newspaper Le Figaro reports that they won't strike a village or a mosquee because it's supposed to house a taleban meeting. There's no way, the French fighters are gonna drop a 250kg-bomb on a taleban leader riding a moped.
