The Soviet use of so called "mine dogs" is relatively common knowledge among WWII on the Eastern Front enthusiasts. The dogs were sort of a stop gap measure borne of the Russian inability to slow or stop the Nazi armored spearheads, unfortunately for the Soviets the dogs could not distinguish between a "friendly" tank or an enemy, and during the heat of battle were as likely to run under a Russian vehicle as a German one. The other problem was the Germans began shooting immediately at any dog on the battlefield, after they became aware of the danger. It's an interesting footnote of the Russo-German conflict, but the dogs were largely ineffective and their use was pretty much discontinued entirely after 1942.
