If anyone out there wants a really good book to read about WW 2 Aviation then I suggest reading the book about Tom Blackburn And VF-17. This book is excellent in every way possible. It gives the true insight about VF-17 and their skipper and how it was VF-17 who proved that the F4U could operate from carriers as early as 1943. It tells how Blackburn and VF-17 worked closely with Vought on upgrading the Corsair and making it even more better then it already was. Did you know that VF-17 was the first squadron to incorperate the bomb rack on the F4U? or how it was VF-17 who gave Vought the idea of adding a leading edge wing spoiler to the wing of the F4U to prevent stalling on approach to a carrier landing? AND that VF-17 shot down more Japanses fighter planes then Boyingtons Blacksheep? Its all here and its told by Commander Blackburn himself. Its a great book for anyone who loves Corsairs and loves true stories about the boys in WW 2 who flew the mighty Corsair in combat. On top of all that its a book about a squadron that gets way overlooked in terms of the history books.

If you have a chance to read it do because its a great read and its not Hollywood fluff but a true story.
