It's one of my favorite movies too, a foreign made classic in my opinion, and ranks right up there with the Finnish made "Talvisota" (winter war). If you've never seen the 1958 German made black and white Stalingrad I would recommend it as another good one to see. I have a pretty substantial DVD library of foreign made (mostly Russian) WWII movies and they are an interesting and refreshing alternative to the stuff Hollywood churns out. It is my understanding that two new movies about the battles of Kursk and Stalingrad are being produced in Russia now, and will eventually be available on DVD in the US with English subtitles in the not too distant future.

Ost, any more recommendations from your foreign library or links to information about the upcoming Soviet films? I have a copy of Winter War on the way..

I'll have to search around for the links to the upcoming Russian films, if I recall I saw the information at the Axis History Forum... http://forum.axishistory.com/ in the movies and games section. One recommendation I can make right off the bat is "Tae Guk Gi" a Korean made movie that is probably one of the most realistic war movies I have ever seen... http://www.amazon.com/Tae-Guk-Gi-Brothe ... and the good news is you can probably rent this title at your local Blockbuster store. The combat scenes in this flick are unlike anything I've ever seen, even better than Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan, a must have for war movie buffs IMO.
