Battle of the Bulge
Hi All,
Just thought I would add to this a little bit:
My great uncle fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the Glider Infantry units on the ground. He was in the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment. The book "Let's Go" by Wayne Pierce is about this particular unit.
Anyway he was killed in the battle. He was actually killed on the way to the hospital in the field when the Jeep he was in was hit by an artillery shell. He was buried in Beligum and is still there to this day. He was awared a Silver Star and my grandfather still has this medal to this day.
I always grew up hearing the story of him. And I know my grandfather (who served in Korea) was always very proud of him and thought he was a hero. After hearing the stories of the deep snow and terrible fighting conditions, and that he led his unit through it all. I must agree!
