Cool Find at a Antique Store yesterday
I took the day off from work yesterday, it was my Birthday (i'm 22 for the second time) and my wife and I hit this little antique store and I found an original WWII German Medal with the weathered ribbon still attached. It is a brass colored round medallion about the size of a silver dollar and on it's face is a iron cross with a swastika in the center. It stated on the back side:
"FUR KRIEGS-VERDIAN"..I'm guessing the translation is "Earned in combat or Earned in war"

The ribbon is really faded I'll have to check the colors when I get home and let you know....but the medal does not have swords at all. The cross in the center is of a different nature that the typicall iron cross..it has split points at the end of the cross arms almost Blue Max style then a tiny swatika in the center...1939 is also on the back? I paid $40.00 for it

Actually, it's the War Merit Medal, not the cross. Here is one on E-Bay:

They go for about $15-$20.

Remember thats his starting bid on ebay. I have a table at local military shows and they are around $40.00, you may find some for $35.00 So you payed average price. Also that is a war merrit cross. They noly differance between that and mine is the one you have is stamped on a disk where mine is an actual cross. There are 3 classes, the one you have being the lowest. then there is the actual cross being 2nd class and then the cross with crossed swords being 1st class. Original Lugtwafle pilots wings are going to cost you around $500.00 and up. I cant afford those. I have all the cheap ones. My favorite in my collection is the Silver Panzer Assault badge. My 2nd is the Iron Cross 1st Clss. my 3rd is the winter medal or as comonly called the eastern front medal or meat medal.
