There has been a lot of talk about replacing the A-10. I understand any plane ultimately has to be decommissioned due to wear, tear, etc. There has also been significant talk about replacing it. Why can't new A-10s be purchased? The new A-10s could have new advancements, technology, etc. It would have to be cheaper than starting from scratch. The same applies to other aircraft that has proven its effectiveness: F-15s, F-16s. Perhaps I am showing my naivete but essentially why 'throw out or away' what works and can be improved?
