I just took my boys this weekend to visit our local memorials I was appalled at how run down they were. There are a couple of World War I era artillery pieces and a Renault tank literally rusting into the ground. The granite veterans's memorial hasn't been kept up either. I about lost it when I came home to a message on my machine talking about the free kids summer feeding program. This country is broken, our priorities are all out of whack.

Not a surprising observation, given that money is tight. It is a shame, but reality. And after the Washington state bridge collapse, quite unnerving to hear about the disrepair that a significant percentage of US bridges are in. Money certainly has to be invested to ensure that the bridges are safe.

And War Memorials are just pretty far down the list of where to spend these limited funds.

It disgusts me how people or companies have manipulated the tax code to avoid paying their fair share. With tax shelters in other countries, they out to be forced to live in the country they have their bank accounts in, not here. I consider them traitors.

Meanwhile our country is going to sh*t, infrastructure is collapsing, our historical memorials are suffering, yet they are sitting pretty living large, getting even more tax breaks as "job creators" and to make up the shortfall, our tax rates, property tax, sales tax, etc. etc. goes up, or remains at double theirs. They continue to feed on us like the vampires they are, and have bought off our corrupt government to keep things the same or make it better for themselves.

I guess nothing will happen until one of them drives over a bridge collapse, or their bottom line is affected because they can't transport their goods on safe rail or truck, or none can afford to buy their goods anymore because of being taxed to death and or living barely above poverty. Till then it's cut this cut that, because they aren't budging one inch.

Nowadays more people are upset that Honey Boo-Boo's dog got run over than the state of our memorials.

Its almost as if they all died for nothing; we certainly haven't made good use of their sacrifice.
