Picked up this book at Ollies Outlet Store for $9.99. Being an airplane guy, I am still low on the learning curve in my interest about German armor. This book is awesome
What an education I am getting. My interest is the exact time period and place this book covers. I didn't realize how badly beaten Allied armor was in nearly every battle in the first weeks after D-Day. The British and Canadians were particularly slaughtered in head to head battle. Were it not for vast numerical superiority and an endless material supply, the Allies would have been stopped cold. Only close air support and waves of hundreds of heavy bombers could offset the total superiority of the German Panzer units. I'm only about half way through. Monty is still losing tanks by the dozens.
"The Greatest Tank Battles" show doesn't come close to telling this story. Nearly every page has illustrations, mostly black and white photos, that show lots of tank detail. If you are into German armor, this book is a must have. There is a companion book called "Steel Storm" about the Eastern front. You can check it out on Amazon.com.
