Wing mounted versus nose mounted Machine Guns

Post by cjg476 » Fri Dec 23, 2011 1:18 pm

Which was better to have wing mounted guns or nose mounted...I talked to a pilot awhile back and he said that wing mounted were better than nose mounted machine guns, is that true? And if so why didnt more fighters have wing mounted weapons? Also did obsolete craft like the p-40 or me-109's with wing mounted cannons have more of an edge? I guess Im just curious.

Yes that is true during ww2 thay were trying to put as many guns as possible on planes to quicken the take down of enemy aircraft but wing mounted guns were better simply because you could have more guns on guns and amo in the wings then in the nose
