What a day!

Though... any day when you have a warbird flying formation with you is a GREAT GREAT day. The only way it could get better is being IN a warbird AND having a warbird in formation... but that's another day
This here is the gorgeous Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless. She's piloted by a good friend of mine at the museum who is largely responcible for the photos I take. While I could take a lot of amazing photos... it's the people who give me the opportunities to take them that deserve the most recognition.
The real treat is that the pilot of the SBD put down everything in a dirty carrier landing configuration. Gear down, Flaps split, and Tail Hook lowered! It was quite funny as we (I was in a Cessna 210) had to put full flaps and the gear down to make sure we didn't speed away. I believe we were going a mere 90-100 knots!
Enjoy!

Now one of those (with all the moving parts & details) would be cool in 1:18!
Great photos as always! I've got to get myself back down to LA and come visit you at the Planes of Fame museum

I find it amusing, all the Dauntless talk since Mike casually mentioned his surprise at the apparent lack of interest in the Dauntless from the board.
Now i have a feeling it's going to become the next 'Zero', with continual demands for one. And that's ok by me. Would be a beauty and a great compliment to 21c's eventual Avenger..

When I was travelling this past weekend, this is what I found in the Midway Airport Terminal (Chicago), at the entrance to concourse A. I'll try to insert a photo to see how it goes. (begging patience if it doesn't work

)
Certainly not as heart-poundingly impressive as the air-to-air, but still a nice static example of an SBD-4.
