The Navy announced the second aircraft carrier in the new GERALD R. FORD-class nuclear-powered aircraft carriers will be the CVN-79 USS JOHN F. KENNEDY. It will be the second carrier named after Kennedy with the conventionally-powered CV-67 being decommissioned in 2007. Kennedy was a decorated PT boat commander in World War II and saved survivors of his crew after their PT boat was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer.

A good name for the new carrier. Although I kind of wish the USN would stop naming almost every ship after a person.

Surprised that they chose the new class of carrier to be the Gerald Ford class.
