I personally don't think that US warships should be named after people[ other than Presidents] for a number of decades after their "service" that got them nominated in the first place. Perhaps 50 years.

Gives it a real cooling off period, and some perspective.

Pretty sure no US sailor would want to serve on the USS "Randall Cunningham". Also known as the "Dukester". :roll:

:?: Yeah what happened to the USN practice of only naming Destroyers after people?Example the CVN aircraft carrier "Carl Vinson" is a name that should be on a Destroyer not a CVN.Carriers should be named after noteworthy battles or famous older ships like "Saratoga" or "Hornet". not politicians or presidents.Same for submarines that used to use fish names,I can sort of go alone with names of States for subs as there are no Battleships anymore but the "USS Jimmy Carter"!?! Puleeze.
