Reportedly, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has decided to name the 10th SAN ANTONIO-class amphibious transport dock, LPD-26, after the late Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the powerful House appropriations defense subcommittee. Murtha, a former Marine, also served in Vietnam. The controversial Murtha was accused of ethics violations several times. In 2005, he accused Marines of "killing innocent people" in Iraq.
Capt. Beci Brenton, a spokesperson for Mabus, had no comment on the report. The previous ships in the SAN ANTONIO-class have been named after US cities.
