Movie Battles
Those are a couple of good ones gk.How about adding these:
Band of Brothers-initial Normandy assault on the coastal guns
A Bridge Too Far-Arnhem Bridge assault
The Patriot(Mel Gibson)-Ambush scene to get his son back and the final
battle scene
BraveHeart-all the battles
The Last Samauri-the battle in the beginning where TC is captured and
the finale
Those are just a few of my personal favourites.Of course I have plenty of others but I'll let others add their comments.Yes there are plenty of errors for you history buffs in all of the scenes but I don't care about that. They provide good entertainment and get the point across and that is "thank god I didn't have to fight in any of these battles or wars."I salute the armed forces of today that protect our freedom and countries from terrorism that is trying to prevail in the present world.Hats off to you all, past, present and future.

Star Wars: New Hope (the Death Star attack)
Last of the Mohicans (The battle in the woods and the battle in the clearing/canoe chance) I love this movie by the way!

battle scenes
The later part of Full Metal Jacket when they are hunting the sniper in the burning town with the sun going down is very dramatic. It's the best film on the Vietnam war I think.
Another film of epic proportions that no-one has mentioned is Pork Chop Hill where Gregory Peck has been assigned a near impossible task of retaking a Hill. All hell breaks loose in that one.
Cheers

The 2 best battles in movie history are:
1. Amphibious Landings by USMC at Benito Atoll (Tarawa) in "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949).
Not only is the action intense, the setting accurate, and the equipment legit, but real footage from the battle is inter-mixed with the staged footage in seamless fashion. This is one of the few advantages of the B&W films!
2. Amphibious Landings by US Army 29th ID with 2nd Ranger Battalion at Omaha Beach in "Saving Private Ryan" (1998). What else can be said about this battle scene? It shocked everybody who saw it, and made modern historians realize that WWII combat was just as brutal as that in Korea or Vietnam.
