There's a fantastic new documentary series debuting this week on The History Channel for "V-E Week". It's called "Hitler''s War". The first two parts played tonight covering the Eastern Front action in Barbarossa, the assault on Moscow and Stalingrad.
Good stuff!

Great series so far.
History Channel is really hitting home by focusing on the tragedy of WWII to the civilian populations. This is one of the reasons why WWII was much more apocalyptic than WWI.
Tonight is the Oder front, and the ensuing Battle for Berlin. Germany was a beaten nation by then, so I guess the civilian stories are just as important as the military ones.
That said, I imagine that the Germans used up most of their panzers and other AFVs at the Oder river, so by the Battle of Berlin, all the krauts had to fight armour were magnetic mines and panzerfausts.
The footage of the Soviet infantry riding all those T-34/85's is awesome.

This is one of the better series I've seen on the History Channel. They do a great job painting a picture of how hellish the war was. Excellent production values, I love seeing the historic battlefield locations as they are today. Adds a nice touch.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Football. I have been recording some of "The SS"" series. I may start to record some of "Hitler's War". We have DISH so I can record right to the hard drive. Just have to get the wife to delete some of the America Idol shows

.

Good series, good footage. I found myself glued to the tube, even though i should've been studying. For instance, I saw enough t-34 footage to last me quite some time. Probably until ve week next year!
