If you are not familiar with the FAQ books I will give you a heads up. I have been searching for over a year for a book entitled "F.A.Q.-frequently asked questions of the AFV painting techniques" by Mig Jemenez. I could not find this book anywhere and if I did the guy wanted over $100 for it.
Well this past December it was released again with a new printing and I got my hands on one.
I can easily say that it is the single most valuable and complete book on the subject of weathering, detailing and finishing your AFV. From dust to mud, rust and chipping, casting marks and burnt steel this book shows it all with tons of images and step by step.

I got mine off Amazon for $50 and for and extra $30 or so I also got the FAQ book on painting figures. Not a bad library for doing you own re-paints. I recommend both.

I have also seen an FAQ for cars, but I have not look into it's worth. I am not much of a car guy. I am looking to do re-paint on my 1/32 tanks.
I will scan some pages and such for people to get an idea of whats inside, but for now here are the 2 covers and a shot that has a few pages inserted in the frame.

That looks very good, a bit pricey perhaps, but at around 250 pages or so, you would assume this is a very comprehensive guide. I will be keeping an eye out for one of those, sometimes you can get books like this at a fairly hefty discount if you are patient and persistent, and know where to look. Thanks for posting this.

if you go to either buy or shop, there was some special for free shipping and if you used Google checkout, you got $10 off, but only until end of jan 08, so that's pretty soon. I will post some pics from the interior. I cannot emphasize the quality of the AFV book enough, the figure book is priced lower due to the fact it is thinner.

Now that I think about it, I didn't get mine off amazon, I was going to, but then I saw the whole google $10 off thingy and that got my wallet out.

I made some scans, I included watermarks for copyright reasons. Dad's a patent attorney and he would be upset with me if I didn't

does this book show how to weather plane?

no, it concentrates on tanks and other wheeled vehicles, but the principles are the same, rust, oil smoke, fire ect.

while the book is titled AFV painting ect, the book is really about duplicating textures and manipulating surfaces with different mediums and paint to get a desired effect. I am sure the book would give you a ton of ideas for your planes. Especially with rust chipped paint, stressed joints ect

actually, here is an online tutorial by the author of the book. He shows some of his techniques and in a few frames uses them on a jet.

I have 2 other books in this series and they are extremely well done and very thick books.
I have applies modeling vignettes and dioramas and the one on tanks

well i may sound like a broken record here but, I have this book here and while that one you mentioned is good, this one goes much further and is at least 8 times thicker, dealing with large cityscapes, bricks, cobblestones ect.
