German Field Works of WWII

Post by ostketten » Sat Aug 04, 2007 5:10 am

Picked this book up on ebay for $15 delivered, a 1969 British reprint of the 1942 German Army Field Manual "Bildheft Neuzeitlicher Stellungsbau" a complete copy of the German original with English translations. What an amazing find, though probably not of much interest to the average collector, but very interesting and useful for the serious WWII history buff or anyone who wants to set up realistic gun positions in dioramas etc. With typical German efficiency, it's simply incredible the amount of detail and information that is packed into an 80 page book, everything from individual rifle pits with grenade sumps, to field gun positions, machine gun nests, wire entanglements etc, even "Wolfsgruben" (literally wolf pits)...that's right....Punji Stake Pits!! I never knew the Germans even used those. Anyway, there are some real gems to be found on ebay every once in a while, and for me, this one qualifies. Click the thumbnail for an enlarged view.

Good find!

Amazon doesnt have it, but I found another book that they do have which sounds very interesting: Tank Turret Fortifications.

Just the thing for those left over turrets from scratchbuilding.

Search for Tank Turret Fortifications at amazon.com
