Tae Gu ki - Korean War movie out on DVD

Hello guys,
I wanted to let you know about this excellent movie. Since i was stationed in Korea during my military years i really thought this movie was superb!
I portraits a different kind of war and the fx are pretty brutal for a forign film.
I have already seen it 3 times and it was well worth it.
hopefully you guys will enjoy it too!

The movie is really good.
Like i said i have seen it 3 times and i'm going tto buy it next.
May sure that you see it in Korean!
it makes the drama seem better and also the language difference gives you a better sense of the conflict and feeling.
It was made in Korea by Korean actors.
So far it is the besrt Korean Movie that they have done.
even the beginning is like the real situation in Korea now....people are still looking for their relatives lost in the war.

Sorry to dig up this old thread. Just saw it and was very moved.. The box describes it being from the tradition of Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.

Have to say I wholeheartedly agree..

it is an aswome movie about a war that many have forgotten but it tells the story of many brave and honorable men!

yup an incredible movie. Very long though that could be good or bad depends on how you look at it. I think that the only colour movie about Korea am I right?

Well, not really the only color movie about Korea there is also a movie called "The bridges at Toko-ri" ...or something like that about MIG alley and some actions happens in the ground but mostly in the air. But good air film.

here is some info about the film:

The Bridges of Toko-Ri, based on James Michener's novella of the same title, is set during the Korean War and centers around Lt. Harry Brubaker. Angered by being called out of inactive reserve and disillusioned by the war in general, Lt. Brubaker tries to make sense of it all to himself and to his family. All while trying to "keep the faith" with his fellow officers. The movie has good effect for it's time and gives insight to aspects of naval aviation seldom seen in movies. If you liked the book, Flight of the Intruder, then this movie is a good bet. Steven Reeves.

As I remember it, "The Bridges at Toko-ri" has some great Navy Panther flying scenes. Thr movie also has some pathetic special effects with Panthers bombing the bridges.

A side story has Mickey Rooney and Eael Holiman ( anybody rememer Earl Holiman???), as the crew of a rescue chopper, good scenes there....

BTW.....I found "Tae Gu Ki" on Netflix and it's in the mail. I spent a year out of my life in Korea, as a very young soldier and the only thing good I can say about the country, is Mrs. TTT's Sonata has held up well for six years. although, I must admit there is no comparison to the comfort and power of my big boat of a Merc Grand Marquis for my twice weekly runs up the Garden State Parkway cruising over 90 just like I was going around the block, arriving fresh wihout the white knuckles of the Hyundai at speed..

Just saw it. AWESOME movie, terrific special effects, even some vehicles and artillery were CG.

Hey Ranger, did you ever see "Play Dirty"? I'm sure I already mentioned it to you, it"s about Brit desert rats behind German lines. Stars Michael Caine and a whole bunch of great Brit character actors. Good flick, it teaches you how to walk a 3/4 ton truck straight up a cliff wall.

All the German half-tracks are actually White's but who's keeping notes???

I did see "Days of Glory". It is, like this threads ROK film, and it's interesting to see war from uncommon perspectives. BTW, did you catch the scene where the Korean family is getting ready to rabbit and one person says "What about our kimchi pots, buried in the ground". Remember kimchi? Gabage and garlic, alot of garlic, buried in earthern potsf for six months.....talk about dragon breath..

That was a good pic, but put a GI helmet and give them M1's and they all look alike

I remember 'kimchi' really well, I spent 3 years in ROK, DMZ area.

I spent a year in the 1st Cav near the town of Musan-ni next to the DMZ. Do not regret a minute. For a young 19 year old, first time away from home, I was in hog heaven

Ah!

I remember Musan, Seol, TDC, Pusan (beach), and others..good times but most of my time was at JSA.....camp liberty bell....camp greaves..."STANDS ALONE"...HOOAH!

Yes, we both were in Korea. Even I am too young to have been there during the Korean War and I know 75th Ranger has served in recent actions to also be too young for the Kotean War.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans have served a one year long tour while in the US military since the Korean War..

It was interesting, to say the least

Chief memories of mine were bitter cold nights spent quite comfortable "sleeping" on wood floors that were heated by hot air in dirt tunnels crisscrossing just under the wood floor from charcoal fires in small furnaces outside the house.,.....oh, thanks for the memories....

We both have become fluent in various Korean slang terms,......."slicky boys, Mama San, Numba 1, and Numba 10". Of course we also know certain Korean terms and cuss words that I wouldn't repeat on a family site.

For me, I enjoyed my year in Korea, for a 19 year old, it was an eye opener, having never met a resident of a foreign country before, as a young man from the Bronx, who grew up thinking Brooklyn was a foreign country...

While in Korea I had a Korean "girlfriend" who actually had no conception of us as being from another country or even an ocean. She honestly thought we (Americans) came from somewhere very far south in Korea and we looked different because we spent alot of time indoors......
