VF-84 Bunker Hill Corsairs.

Post by MightyMustang » Thu Aug 24, 2006 11:44 am

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any photos of the Bunker Hill Corsairs they could share? Or can anyone point me in the right direction to find them? I have searched the net and found nothing. So maybe one of you guys can help.

Thanks

Sure, check out Teamski's profiles at:

There is a great shot of a BH Corsair with its wings folded up.

I see a Hellcat in that photo. That scheme would look good on a Hellcat model. :D

Hellcat

Post by JimBob55 » Thu Aug 24, 2006 6:29 pm

Wow, quick response! I just posted the photo :D

Yes, Corsairs, a Hellcat, TBM-3 Avengers, and way in the back, Helldivers. On the way to the Japanese home island raids in February '45.

What amazes me is with all those big props spinning more guys weren't killed on the flight deck. That was some dangerous work.

More photos

Here's a couple of more Bunker Hill photos. These are from Osprey's "The Blue Devils, US Navy & Marine Corps Aces of World War II". I left the captions for information.

Thanks Jimbob for the pics! I have found an idea that I'm gonna do with my 21st Century Bunker Hill F4U. That is I'm gonna take the rockets that came with my Marines Dream F4U and put them on my Bunker Hill Corsair since it does show that the Bunker Hill F4U's did use rockets.

I like watching old film of Corsairs taking off from carriers. You can see all that right rudder the pilot is giving to counter that torque made by that huge prop. Great stuff. :D

Rockets

Post by JimBob55 » Sat Aug 26, 2006 12:00 pm

I used the Avenger rockets instead of the BBI Corsair's. Requires careful drilling with a 1/8" bit. The placement is a bit closer together than the Avenger's.

I just need to paint the launcher stubs blue or wait to canabilize the set from the Flight 19 TBM.

Here's the placement (from "F4U Corsair in Scale and Detail"):
