Gatefold books

Post by aferguson » Tue Nov 23, 2004 11:57 am

Anyone own any of these? They cover various military topics and feature 3 foot long fold out drawings. Beautiful illustrations and huge! Most books cover 36 individual subjects, each with its own gatefold.

I've got the one on WW2 planes and have just ordered the ones on modern warplanes, warships, helicopters and US combat aircraft. Most of them can be had for around $7-$10 ea. An absolute steal at those prices.

Hey P: can you tell me if the 'modern warplanes' book has the following aircraft in it:

Hustler, Valkeryrie, Viking, Skyraider, Stealth Fighter?

I ordered the 'US combat aircraft' book too but if it's got mostly the same planes as the 'warplanes' one i'll cancel my order.

thanks, :)

Off-hand I can't remember about the first three, I'm pretty sure there's a Skyraider in it, and positive there's a F-117 in it.

Ski:

$7.99 The Gatefold Book of the World's Great Warplanes
ISBN:1566196302 (this is modern planes)

$7.99 The Gatefold Book of the World's Great Warships
ISBN:1566199689 Nov 23, 2004

$6.31 WORLD'S GREAT MILITARY HELICOPTERS
no ISBN, search for title on barnes and noble's site (link below)

I don't have an ISBN for the WW2 warplanes book but it is in the link below.

If you go to Barnes and Noble site:

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bookse ... ds2Pid=946

they are all there....cheap too. You may even qualify for free shipping.

This was the cheapest place i could find them......cheaper even than ebay...and some werent on ebay.

The helicopter one is by a diff't publisher so it's not called a 'gatefold' book in its title but it has the same gatefold pics in it.

The pictures are truly spectacular.....a bit thin on information but it's the big pictures i bought the books for. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The fold outs are 3 feet long and the pictures are at least 2 feet or more in length. Some are drawn bigger than they would be in 1/18 and beautifully detailed.
