USS FORRESTAL sold for one cent
Re: USS FORRESTAL sold for one cent
It's sad it was up for donation and no one wanted it. What a loss.

We are losing too much of our Nation's history!
You can read about a historical event, but stand on the deck of the ship or the battlefield where the event happened brings that event alive.
I was able to take my son aboard the USS Midway in San Diego this year and show him the size and power of an aircraft carrier.
What is my son going to be able to show his son, if we let ships slip to the scrappers?

Agree that it is sad to see that nobody wanted it even for free.
But you have to look at the cost to transport it, and store it after that. Think that many nautical museums would love to get a super carrier for free, but simply can't afford to hemorrhage money just to have it on display.
Unfortunately the fate of most ships, even the mighty super carriers.
