StG44 ?

Post by Fritzkrieg » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:38 pm

I was wondering what in which theaters did the StG44 see action?
I'm pretty sure it was used in both the Eastern and Western Fronts, but was in used in North Africa?

no It didn't see use widespread, til summer of 44

and was found in all fronts Italian, Western and Eastern.

Deployment went from sprinkled among rifle units to entire platoons armed with it(I have a photo of such in Italy sometime in 1945)

The concept was a good one, it has been said the Soviets used the design charachteristics (especially the mid power cartridge) as a basis for what is probably the most widely produced and best known assault rifle of all time... the AK-47, however the Stg44 was not without it's shortcomings, and is just another example of the Germans tendency to expend already scarce resources to produce yet another weapon system that had little or no effect on the overall war effort.
